Here is a picture of the sweet ride I built up -- the ultimate commuter!

It has a 1x8 drivetrain mixing Suntour derailleur and barend shifter with an 8-speed Shimano cassette...friction all the way -- indexing is for amateurs!! I am running drop bars with Tektro brake levers and Nashbar inline cyclocross levers. Deore LX cantilevers front and rear. I sit on a beloved WTB SSX saddle in glittery silver -- my throne! The rest is a mix of well-used parts from my bins. This bike quickly accumulated a lot of bicycle advocacy stickers ("Share The Road" and such). I consider myself to be a rolling preacher of all things bicycle commuting, especially since so few of us choose to brave some of the most dangerous streets in America to get to and from work via bicycle.

Fenders and a rack are mandatory for commuting here in wet Florida. Since a lot of my commuting is done after dark, I run two LED headlights, three rear LED blinkies, a couple hundred square inches of DOT reflector tape and a homemade helmet light that is sufficiently strong to convince motorists not to pull out in front of me.

I bought my Toure Alpha 5000 (see an alike in the photo) in '87 at Bike Nashbar, and I still ride it (frame, fork, wheels, derailleurs) - mostly on heavy loaded tours. I have changed Sugino triple crank to Campa Veloce triple, Dia Compe brakes to Shimano 105, saddle to Gel Royale, handlebar to a TT bar, pedals to SPD and lately I have managed to get an original (but new) Suntour casette. The only problem was that last year I broke the original Araya 27 x 1 1/8" backwheel, and it is impossible to get a reliable 630 mm wheel again (everything has chaned to 622 mm). I would appreciate very much any help in having again that Araya (or similar quality) rims or wheels. Thank you

This is my Nashbar 853 Signature frame build up. It only took me from 8:00 until 11:00 one night to get it completely built. Everything went on very easily. I'm using a sram X.7 derailleur and shifters. The fork is a 2006 Marzocchi MX Comp. The wheels are Performance TeraMax, with Avid BB-7 disc brakes. The bike handles, and rides great. The bike steers very precisely with the 80mm fork, but not overly quick. I love passing bunches of people on their $3000 full suspension bikes with my inexpensive steel hard tail.

A few years ago, I removed my shifters and derailleurs and never looked back. My first single speed setup required a chain tensioner but this setup does not. The chainstay length of the Nashbar frame, 32-T crank sprocket and a 17-T BMX freewheel combine so that the chain tension is perfect, without binding or chain derailing. The rear wheel is built on a Surely 1x1 hub with a downhill Mavic rim, and the front a disc Shimano XT hub also on a Mavic beefy rim. The cranks are Truvativ Stylo SS and the front end brake is a mechanical disc by Avid. The result is a sturdy, reliable setup that has withstood anything I can put it through.

Hello Nashbar,
Here's my Nashbar Road Frame build up. I built with the Nashbar Carbon fork, Lite Handlebars and Stem, Ascent Carbon Seatpost, and Easton Vista wheels. Drivetrain is all Shimano 105 9spd with Dura-Ace STIs. I love the ride, it's a good solid feel and I finally have a bike where everything fits right. Building it was a blast, I kind of doubt I'll ever buy a complete bike again. The bike's name is "Woof". Thanks!

A few years ago my beloved Bianchi and I were hit by a car. I was OK, the Bianchi frame, bent beyond repair. I bought a new Specialized Allez 24 for an upcoming charity ride. I had trouble getting comfortable on the new bike and decided to build my own with a Nashbar frame, and the wheels and drivetrain (Shimano BioPace) from the broken Bianchi. I also added an Easton carbon fork, Profile Design bars, and Sora STI shifters (all Nashbar). I also upgraded the Specialized with the same Easton fork from Nashbar. Now I am enjoying both bikes!

Returning to cycling after a 10 year layoff, I felt out of place with my down tube shifters and rusting steel frame. I put together a frame set consisting of Nashbar's aluminum Road Frame and Carbon Road Fork, and a Ritchey headset. I transferred over an almost new 1996 8 speed Campagnolo derailleur and cassette with an old, but true, set of Mavic wheels. I retrofitted a set of Campagnolo 9 speed Ergo shifters to 8 speed. A Nashbar compact double crankset with ISIS bottom bracket, a new seat and carbon seat post completed my upgrade.

Hi Nashbar,
I built up the aluminum/carbon frame for long club rides and centuries. I used FSA carbon cranks and New Dura Ace 10 speed. Light wheels and fast tires but a very comfortable WTB saddle. This is now my favorite road bike but I still ride my good old steel Masi on occasion.
