Comments about Nashbar Touring Bike:

First I am 5'9" and I got size 54. Previous review mentioned, this bike is a Fuji Touring bike. Got a 30% promo, so it was a steal. I built bikes before, so assembly was easy, however Nashbar did not put both brake levers at the same angle, so it was hassle to take off grip and readjust the levers. Didn't use pedals it came with, but used an extra Shimano 105 pedals. Swapped out seat with a Brooks Imperial B17, put on Nashbar front rack, attached Topeak Road Morph pump, and installed SKS P45 Longboard fenders. With fender installation, I had problems due to the rear rack design, solved it by putting spacers where the rear rack attaches on frame. Pump is attached along the rear left seat stay. I got Ortlieb rear panniers and Nashbar waterproof front panniers. When you add it up with the extra accessories and upgrades, the cost still is equal or less than many popular touring bikes without extras. First, this bike is heavy, about 14 pounds heavier than my carbon road bike, but within the same weight as other tourers. It is built to be strong and I can tell it will last. The frame is nice, the components are solid. Using bar end shifters take some time to get used to. Brakes were way off so needed to make adjustments to the tension and pad placement, might upgrade them in near future. After a few rides, I had to re-adjust the front derailers, but expected on any new bike. Wheels and tires are sturdy. Bike comes with 32 width tires, can take 35s if you feel inclined. So I ride it to work everyday, and one optional route to work includes a 1000 foot climb, which I do when I am not late, will get double takes from the riders on their 16 lbs carbon bikes. Enough gears for the steeper climbs. Ride is comfortable once you are fitted correctly, my seat and handlebars are almost the same height. And I like the extra spare spokes that are attached to the left chainstay. Ain't winning races nor picking up babes with it, but plan to take it across the USA.

    Comments about Nashbar Touring Bike:

I bought the Nashbar touring bike for commuting to work. Before I purchased it, I checked out a Fuji Touring bike at my local bike shop. This bike is 99% the same as the Fuji Touring bike. The frame has the exact same dimensions and weight and even has the same unique spoke holder. The only differences are the saddle (slightly different), paint color and logos on the frame, stem and seat post. Everything else is the same (including crankset, derailleurs, shifters, brakes, rims, tires, etc.). The price with Nashbar's 25% discount and free shipping was $215 less than the Fuji bike.

Shipping was excellent. The bike was delivered to my house 2 days after I placed my order. It was packed very well and the condition was perfectly fine; there was no damage whatsoever.

Setting up the bike was not a big deal but I am mechanically inclined and enjoy working on bikes. However, I am not well versed in gear adjustments and it did take me some time to get the gears indexed properly. The brake setup and adjustment was relatively easy, although I could see it could be a challenge for some (even with Nashbar's online tutorial). If you are not mechanically inclined, you may need help from a local bike shop. I think my local shop would have charged about $50 to $75 for adjusting the brakes and derailleurs after I set the bike up. I'm not sure what they would charge to set up the entire bike right out of the box, but you may not be saving much if that's what you are looking to do. You may be better off purchasing the Fuji bike from your local shop.

I have ridden the bike about 100 miles since I purchased it and I do like it very much. It is comfortable and sturdy and works well for my commute. I have ridden a few times in the rain and the bike handles and stops well. One issue I had was the front derailleur slipped because it had not been clamped tightly to the frame tube. Once I was home it was an easy fix but checking bolt torque out of the box is recommended.
