Diamondback Release Mountain Bike
If you're thinking of going big on the trail, you need a bike that can handle a variety of terrain, big hits, and still be manageable on a long climb - a bike like the 2017 Diamondback Release dual-suspension mountain bike. With its slack geometry, precision shifting courtesy of the 1x11-speed SRAM drivetrain, and burly Suntour and X-Fusion suspension, the Release takes trail hits in stride and delivers an incredible ride quality. The Release is meant to be ridden hard and fully enjoyed.

Diamondback's new Level Link four bar suspension isolates the drivetrain and suspension inputs, resulting in a very efficient pedaling platform. The lower link stays in line with the chain as the suspension is compressed. This allows efficient power transfer to the rear wheel without feeding back through the drivetrain. At the neutral sag point, the upper link is always optimally positioned to react to trail inputs, whether you're pedaling hard or not. Combined with the modern geometry of the Release's aluminum frame and a low center of gravity, level link delivers supreme speed thanks to suspension efficiency.

The Release features a SR Suntour Aion R suspension fork with 150mm of travel and a beefy tapered steerer. The X-Fusion O2 Pro R rear shock smooths out nasty trail feedback. A 1x11-speed SRAM NX-1 all-mountain drivetrain and Diamondback's very own 27.5" Blanchard 28R wheelset keep the bike moving forward at a strong clip. Kenda Nevegal 27.5"x2.35" tires, a virtual gold standard in all-mountain riding due to their massive and deep trail imprint, deliver great traction in virtually any terrain.

Comments about Diamondback Release Mountain Bike:

Now that I've ridden this for 100 miles and finally got the suspension dialed in, I feel I can give a pretty good review. I am coming of a hard tail with 26 inch wheels. What most concerned me at first was the lack of lock out on the rear shock but the frame design virtually eliminates pedal bob while in the saddle. All of the components are good entry level components that can be upgraded later. The pre-applied tubeless rim tape is a nice addition. While the weight is a touch heavy, all in all this is an excellent virtual pivot point frame at an excellent value.

Transitioning from road to MTG. First full suspension bike. Very happy with build and durability of bike. Price/Quality is excellent! Ten rides and 200 miles, no issues. Suspension takes up/down hill very well. Easily modified to tubeless and very happy with thorn removal and no flats. Just need a dropper post now. Very well balanced bike. KEEP PEDALING!!!

Comments about Diamondback Release Mountain Bike:

VPP suspension at a single pivot price. Get it for the sale price and this bike is an insane value. The cockpit is just right. The x-fusion rear shock is a real flop (RLC would probably be acceptable if they used that) but the Aion fork is good. I bought a Monarch RT3 and SLX brakes right off the bat. The stock M365 brakes just have no power but at least they didn't use SRAM. The bike stays planted on uphills, and has excellent geometry for technical terrain as well as downhill. I ride in tight twisty terrain and this bike feels as flickable as my old 26 incher, just more stable. I bought my last FS bike 10 years ago and don't really understand all the complaints about the weight of the bike. I don't get paid to ride a bike so I'm fine with losing a few seconds on my uphill times. Seriously, bike marketing is absurd these days and this bike should be enough for 90% of people's needs. It knocks the socks off of my old Iron Horse Mark 3 in all areas. I love the 1x drivetrain. It really puts more focus on riding the bike and less on shifting.

Comments about Diamondback Release Mountain Bike:

I bought this bike to replace a much more expensive Cannondale that was stolen and although I haven't had it very long, I've taken it on some pretty grueling trails over the past couple of weeks. I'll start by saying I am by no means in great shape but the 1x drivetrain has sufficient range for steep climbs as well as bombing the downhill sections. Diamondbacks LevelLink suspension does a phenomenal job of reducing that bounce you get when mashing the pedals on most other full suspension bikes. The pedaling is almost as efficient as most hardtails, putting energy to the ground where it needs to go and not loosing it in the rear shock. Speaking of the rear shock, this bike rides like a dream. It floats over roots with ease and makes quick work of rock gardens and other obstacles thanks to the 27.5" tires without feeling the least bit cumbersome like some of the 29ers I've ridden. The bikes not the lightest one in the world but I only really notice it when putting on and taking it off of my roof rack. Once I'm riding it, the weight difference between it and my carbon frame Cannondale isn't that noticable. The bike pedals so efficiently that it rides like a much lighter bike than it really is. Once you get the suspension tuned, big drops are no issue. The frame on this bike is beefy and I have no doubt that it can take a beating. This bike will eventually get a dropper post and the 31.6mm seatpost diameter gives you plenty of options. The tube is also predrilled and already set up for internal cable routing of a dropper post which I was happy to see. Some of the online reviews and unboxing videos I saw said it came with a shock pump but mine didn't. Not sure if those were bought straight from DB and the Nashbar/Performance Bike exclusive models don't include the pump but either way, it's not a big deal. I will give Nashbar a solid 10/10 for how they handled everything. Already picked out my next hardtail!
