I used this to break loose a crown race on a 19 year-old Specialized Stumpjumper. It worked very well.

    Not for flat fork crowns

Comments about Nashbar Crown Race Remover:

A version of the Park removal tool. Alas, even with proper damage control (i.e. tape, rags ) forks were gouged and scarred. Seems it's best for the unicrown type MTB forks, b/c the blades are too blunt/chunky to get under the race w/o scarring. Resorted to old school race removal with screwdriver/tack hammer tapping. Instructions also say to hammer the tool to remove the race, compounding the tool's cosmetic impacts.

Comments about Nashbar Crown Race Remover:

Works just fine. It's blades are too blunt for certain crown races and a box knife blade was needed to start the pull. That opened a gap large enough for the tool to do its work.

Comments about Nashbar Crown Race Remover:

This remover offers good quality at a great price, but must be used carefully. It uses hard metal wedges to separate the crown race from the fork. I tried this on a Kestrel carbon fork with a Stronglight aluminum crown race, followed the directions exactly, but only succeeded in chipping the fork and denting the soft race. I gave up before causing further damage. This particular race may have been on tighter than usual, I don't know. This tool would be easier on steel forks and races. Five stars for value but only three stars cause it didn't work for me.

This made crown race removal easy! No pounding, just a few light taps to remove the crowns once this tool loosened them. A definite improvement to your tool box at a very good price!

Comments about Nashbar Crown Race Remover:

The tool is functional and does the job, but I found it awkward to use. A third hand to help hold wrenches and/or the tool would have been nice. As it was, I scraped up some paint on the fork crown getting it seated in place.

I was a bit skeptical at first, but so far it works perfect. I have used it twice on carbon road forks w/ nearly flush mounted races, they came off like butter.
