    Too narrow & don't curve

Comments about Nashbar Handlebar Tape Pads:

The pads are too narrow and short, resulting in an oval shape under the tape that actually causes more pressure on your palms. They also do not follow the curve in the bars, making them very hard to position.

They worked really well for about a week then the stickiness wore off and they began falling out. I would just recommend getting standard tape.

Comments about Nashbar Handlebar Tape Pads:

I am a home mechanic that wraps many people's bars and everyone loves the results these make. The comments about slippage indicates some people aren't wrapping tight enough and it is not the tape pads causing it as I get no slippage but I wrap tight as even without pads a loose wrap will slip on you. Yes, when I was a beginner I wrapped too loose and then learned to wrap tight. If you locate the pad at the point of contact properly of your hands the narrow pad is not a problem in my experience. I also found you must cut the pads at an angle to make the bar curve and the gel stays in place. I use 1 1/2 pads per side to get the curve done and don't bother with the drops as I know no one who spends time there. That leaves me with an extra pad so use 3 sets for four bikes, that is $6 per bike so how can you go wrong? Blows away Aztec wrap as it is just cheap closed cell foam but if you want wider and curved pads then Blue Ribbon is very nice and arguably worth their premium price. Fizik gel pads are also a nice curved design if you want a more minimalist thickness. Note that the Cinelli gel pads seem identical to the Nashbar pads so the king of bar tape seems to think this design is pretty good too.

Handlebar gel pads -- so so

Comments about Nashbar Handlebar Tape Pads:

These handlebar gel pads were a disappointment. They tend to slip under the bar tape unless secured with electrical tape. They are also quite narrow for use on oversized bars. If they are tightly secured to the bar, the gel is compressed and does not cushion that well. If you apply the pads to both the top of the bars and to the inner curves of the drops, more than the usual amount of bar tape will be required to wrap the handlebars properly. For this reason, I ended up only applying the pads to the top of the bars since I use the drops only about 10 percent of the time while cycling. A better solution for more cushioning might be to double-tape the bars. If the pads were cylindrical with a slit through which the bars can slip through, the product may be much more effective

Not great for bends/curves on the handlebars, but works well on the straight parts. (I was hesitant to try cutting them)

Comments about Nashbar Handlebar Tape Pads:

I used these on drop style handlebars on a road/touring bike that I rode cross country. I had previous issues with hand numbness on long rides and these solved my problem. Use some strips of electrical tape to hold them down in addition to the self backed adhesive before overwrapping with handlebar tape to prevent movement. I used these on the top curve of the handlebars and could ride all day without numbness and w/o gloves when in an upright position.

              Makes cycling WITHOUT GLOVES comfortable

Comments about Nashbar Handlebar Tape Pads:

I live in Florida and having been using Nashbar gel pads in the "drops" of my road bike handlebars since they became available several years ago. I prefer to ride without gloves due to our Florida heat and these gel pads make riding in the drops quite comfortable without gloves. I have found the pads wide enough, personally.
I had experienced some sliding around of the pads near the bar ends after quite a few hours of riding. Now, instead of bar tape in the drops, I sleeve the gel pads with 1-1/4" heat shrink tubing then start my bar tape below the brake handles and continue up to the bar center. Heat-shrink has fully secured the pads AND the lower end of the bar tape, and you eliminate tape ridges. I greatly prefer these gel pads in the drops to one or two layers of cork tape. I have Nashbar gel pads on 3 of 4 of my road bikes. I am a fitness rider, early retiree, 80 to 100 road miles per week.

Comments about Nashbar Handlebar Tape Pads:

Even with the width factor this is still probably the best product of its kind, in my opinion.I wrapped my handlebars with a light weight electrical tape & then applied the NB Gel Pads tight against each other to create a wider grip surface. Another light wrap of electrical tape over the pads followed by Profile Design handlebar tape has created a secure, padded grip for over 2500 miles so far.

Too narrow and too thick to be comfortable on the flats of road bars. It does absorb some shock, but the narrowness makes my hands go numb.
