This is a solid shoe at a great price. Most of us (sorry to break the news) will not be breaking records in the near future and should be looking a shoe like this. All the features the big boys have with some added weight for under $100. Easy math!

Shoes are lightweight and fit better than my old pair, with more room in the toe section. Seem to be quality constructed.

Comments about Exustar SM332 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

I bought these shoes about six months ago when i was archiving my Look stuff and switching to SPD. The shoes were stiff out of the box which shouldn't have been surprising so I did my usual which was attempt to stretch them with shoe trees. I've ridden them off an on but the stiffness has never gone away. I switched back to some Look shoes and my feet loved 'em. As a result, these dogs are being pitched. When your feet hurt during a ride, that is it...

Wide toe box and carbon platform are great! Had to size down from 42 in my Shimano's to a 41 in the Exustar. Comfortable. Awesome for the price!

Only downside is the bottom rubber grips are covered in the hard plastic that is over the bottom carbon sole. The thin layer of plastic breaks off the minute you begin stepping on it and there is rubber under it but why coat the rubber grips??

Comments about Exustar SM332 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

My beloved Pearl Izumi shoes finally disintegrated enough that I had to act. I use SPD on all my bikes (road, fixie, commuter, and a travel bike), and one pair of shoes for all riding.

These Exustars are proving to be an excellent choice, and I rated them accordingly. The carbon sole is stiff, stiff, stiff, just as expected. The click closure is highly effective...maybe even too effective. It's easy to overtighten, and then have squished foot heat an hour later. The quality of the materials is very high.

Concerns: the inside strap attachment points for the click closure are bulky (thick), and they rubbed on the crankarm at first. I re-bolted them...it's satisfactory. As someone noted, an SPD cleat is ever-so-slightly exposed, so roll your feet to the inside or outside to assure traction on linoleum.

Buckle strap rubs on crankarm where it attaches to the shoe. Protrudes out a bit.

Comments about Exustar SM332 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

Not a bad carbon-soled shoe for the price. Light, stiff, comfortable. Large toe box area.

Run big--Had to go down a size from my Sidi and Shamano shoes (from 42 to a 41).

Seem to be well constructed besides the grips on the bottom are a little weird. It's carbon sole and nobbs, with a clear plastic coating over the top that instantly cracks and begins to flake off when you use them??
Only used a few times so far. Seem to grip ok in dry dirt but on the rocks and mud?

A friend has had them for over a year, lots of use and says they have held up well.

Would buy at this sale price again no question, but not a 5 star shoe.

Comments about Exustar SM332 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

Just received these in the mail. To be clear, I'm commenting only on first impressions:

The thing that immediately stands out is the lack-luster construction quality of these shoes. Material, stitching, fit and finish, etc. are all mediocre at best. Do not be mis-led by their supposed price before mark down. These are in no way comparable in quality or value to the top products offered by industry leaders around the original pricepoint listed. Even the competitor's products near the current discounted price of this shoe show considerably more care in materials and construction details.

Second, these shoes are quite heavy in relation to the high dollar products that they are supposedly on par with. They are even heavier than value oriented shoes with composite soles (Shimano, Mavic, Specialized) in their discounted price range.

The soles are stiff, as advertised and expected. That's the good news. The TPU treads, however, are almost as hard and slick as the sole itself. They are extremely slippery on wood floors (first impressions, remember). Should you ever have to call on them for traction in the world of slanted slick rock, moss covered roots, water crossings, ice, snow, mud, etc., it's hard to imagine them performing well.

Looking at the sole, there is what appears to be a carbon fiber layer visible under a hard plastic clear coat. However, after seeing the general construction quality of these shoes, it becomes easy to question the quality of this carbon and, in fact, whether it is anything more than a printed facsimile. Can't make any definitive statements either way.

All that said, this is not, all together, a bad shoe. They are not the premium product they pretend to be, but at the current discounted price they may still be a worthwhile value. The stiff sole and generally passable build and functionality may well provide decent service for a reasonable amount of time at a reasonable price.

I would not, at first glance, trust these for racing or in challenging off-road conditions, but as a stiff yet walkable, value oriented alternative for road cycling (which is how I'm considering using them now that I've seen them), they may turn out to be perfect.

I found these shoes on sale and love them. I had a problem with my toes going numb in my previous pair from another brand but these work great and havent had a problem. I love the ratchet, the rigidity and the light weight. Have not had a single problem.
