Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike
If you're looking for a 29" mountain bike that won't break the bank, the Nashbar AT1 29er mountain bike should be your first choice. The steel hardtail 29er MTB frame is incredibly durable and has excellent trail feedback. The Shimano 7-speed drive train provides more than enough gears to give you plenty of speed on the flats and still power up the hills with ease. The 29" wheels allow you to roll over some pretty gnarly singletrack with ease. It's an incredibly affordable 29" mountain bike that's ready to rock as is, or perfectly ready for some upgrades if you're in the market for a project bike.
  • Steel frame offers an excellent mix of durability, stiffness and trail feedback
  • 75mm fork of travel helps take the sting out of the trail
  • 29" wheels help you roll over obstacles with ease
  • Shimano 7-speed drive train delivers dependable, precise shifting

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

I bought this bike because i wanted to trail ride, i used to race BMX as a teenager and wanted an enexpnsive cruiser and ended up getting the 29er. The deal i got on the Nashbar site was exemplary and so good that ive told several people aboit it as im in an area with a lot of bike trails. The only complaints i have are about the brakes dront derailleur and the seat. The v brakes are AGGRAVATING to adjust and hard to find helpful YouTube videos on the matter. The front derailleur was not positioned right and chain rub was an issue in 1st gear. The seat... THIS SEAT IS TERRIBLE! It took me 2 days to assemble this bike, 2 additional days to adjust it and by the time i could finally go for a ride and enjoy the fruits of my labor i encountered the painful TERRIBLE seat. Its been about a month and i still have yet to hit the trail. Nashbar could throw in some coupons for seats etc with the purchase as well as instructions. Overall im okay with my purchase. Im thinking that i shouldn't have gptten a 29er but im npt sure because I've yet to go for a full bike ride.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

Steel frame is heavy but feels solid and comfortable riding on rough, chip sealed rural roads where I live. I was originally looking for a comfort/cruiser but soon realized that a simple, beefy MB like the Nashbar 29r was a way better choice.

That I could get a good quality entry level bike for around $200 is amazing, so kudos. If you've shopped around at all, that's a steal for what this bike is!

More important: I'm 6'1" and this bike with a 21" frame fits me perfectly. Again if you've shopped around, even in a bike store with assistance, it's really hard to nail down the proper size for tall folks with long legs. Nashbar made that clear and is one of the main reasons I bought the bike.

However, I had/have serious issues with the front derailleur and its shifter and finally had my expert bike mechanic friend fix it for me which required "some" bending, etc. to achieve just so-so performance Still have some annoying chain rub. It'll get replaced soon.

No Instructions come with the bike. I'm a new rider and I am not a mechanic. But I figured it was important to do it myself to learn. I managed to get the bike to 90% by watching youtube videos. I highly recommend GMBN (British) and Art's Cyclery who had great basic videos up on assembling and tuning my bike. The Nashbar video, which I eventually came across while searching for instructions leaves a LOT to be desired -- no details, close up views of alignments, etc.

All in all, I'm very satisfied and recommend it to anyone looking for a good all around bike on a budget.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

I was expecting less for my money.
I love my bike thanks to it I´m playing/exercising every day!
It was a challenge to put it together, but no need to pay someone else to do it for me.
My first 29er. I don´t care about speed but size of wheels will make up hill ridding harder. Eventually I´ll invest in better gearing to offset wheel size.
Size of wheels will seat you higher from the ground, even with the same frame size. I barely touch the ground.
Mounted on the bike the ride is confortable.
Breaks work perfect, no need to invest in disks.
I installed an old set of toe clips and straps to the original pedals which are confortable even after a long day of standing.
I got more than I expected for the price I could afford and willing to invest in a bike.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

I really like the bike but the included instructions are beyond terrible. Yes, most of the assembly is intuitive but give the new rider a break here - at least include a link to your website that shows the basic setup (think lego instructions but with fotos). You could also include web links for the Shimano front and rear derailleurs - the hardest part was getting the gears to shift correctly.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

Bike does great climbing hills on road, gravel, or grass. Easily handles high speeds smoothly and quietly while jumping right into gravel trails. Shifting feels good and is accurate. Got the biggest size frame because I'm 6'2" and its a great fit. For the price this bike is a great purchase and can easily be upgraded with more expensive parts as years progress.
The only real cons are the seat is hard and uncomfortable, and for some this bike might be on the heavy size, but only because this is a solid well built steel framed bike.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

I am brand new to mountain biking. In fact, I haven't even been on a bike in years. I was looking to enter the hobby without dumping tons of money and after reading several other reviews, settled on the 29er. My only complaint is that the outer chain ring guard came broken so I just removed in entirely - - after all, it is a MOUNTAIN BIKE.

I have put about 30 (hard) miles on it and so far so good.

For sizing: I am 5'11" and 220 lbs. I purchased the large and it seems to fit good.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 29er Mountain Bike:

Bike is a great ENTRY level MTB. Bought on a whim, never had a 29 MTB.I expected less but got more. The color as other stated actual looks better in person. Yes,you can write all day about improvements but that wouldn't be fair for a entry level bike that so far at 210 miles exceeded my expectations. Been riding for 35 years and had "Expensive Bikes" and what some call "Box Bikes". That said, this is as good as it gets with realistic thinking. Entry Level! If you are thinking of getting wheels in air, buy a more expensive bike.
