Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers
Discovering that the rain has infiltrated your bags is like getting smacked in the face with a wet beach towel. Avoid this cycling tragedy with Nashbar's Waterproof Front Panniers. They are made with rugged 400 denier nylon which is scuff, puncture, and tear resistant, and treated with EPU coating on the inside which seals the deal--literally. A roll-top closure makes it impossible for water to work its way in...you pretty much have to throw these panniers in a river to get your stuff wet. With 14 liters of capacity, you can certainly stow some stuff.

For serious all-weather touring capacity, we recommend pairing these with Nashbar's Rear Waterproof Panniers which are a larger version of this item.

  • Durable 400 denier outer material w/EPU coating is ultra tough and totally waterproof
  • Folding "roll-top" closure keeps rain out completely
  • 14 liters of storage each carries quite a load
  • Mounts easily to racks
  • Reflective Logos on side and front
  • Sold as a pair

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers:

Given that it is currently snowy wintertime, I haven't had a chance to use them but they appear to be the perfect size for the front rack for touring purposes as well as for the rear rack for commuting purposes. The construction looks solid.

The only complaints I have about them is that the description on the website doesn't really make it clear that they are sold as a pair and secondly, when they arrived, one was packed inside the other making me think that they were sold singly until I examined the pannier more closely to see the other one inside of it.

I look forward to using these in a couple of months.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers:

So I've read in the past that the panniers had rivets holding the rack hangers and plastic backing onto the pannier itself, but now they come with everything bolted on, which makes it much easier to service if you have to. I've had these for a few weeks and ride 4 days a week for a total of 65 miles. I've encounted rain on almost everyday of the last week or two and they do the job they are supposed to do. I would say the only thing I WISH they had were an additional smaller pocket on the outside of inside so that I can place small stuff in without it getting lost between clothing and other junk one puts in a pannier. All the straps and buckles are very secure and I can't imagine them ripping off with ease. Also, the hook that attaches to the rack is a bit small for some rack tubes (radius size), but they are easily mallable with some tools so that they will hook on. And, lastly, don't worry about the hooks falling off...

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers:

I bought them for a family bike trip and needed some front bags for our Bike Friday tandem. These bags are no-frills but a lot of bang-for-the-buck!

They appear to be water-tight based on reviews (it didn't rain on our trip). The only real difference I can see between these bags and the higher-priced bags is the mounting hardware.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers:

I have used these panniers on the front 20 inch wheel rack and on the mid-mount rack on my long wheel base recumbent on tours of 350 miles and 400 miles. Their shallow depth is good, as they do not drag the ground. I have had no problems with them popping off the rack, but I have used them on the road and smooth rails-to-trails. They have held up well, as have the earlier series Nashbar bags, some of which have lasts more than 10 years. All my gear has stayed dry.

              beware of Nashbar measurements

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers:

Great panniers at a reasonable cost. Good value. They are not 4 inches deep (or wide as they call it), more like 6 or 7 inches deep. The 19 inch is measured with the bag fully extended before it has been rolled down. They fit fine on a low rider front rack.

Comments about Nashbar Waterproof Front Panniers:

The bags themselves seem well constructed, with good buckles and straps for the roll-top closure. I've used them in some pretty heavy rain, and no water got inside. The mounting hardware is quite basic: rubber coated metal hooks for the rack, and a bungee to keep it on. There's a plastic backer board to maintain the shape of the bag when mounted.

It's easy to see how they cut cost via the mounting hardware vs. higher end bags, but I haven't had any problem with them bouncing around and consider these bags to be a great value.
