Classic case of you get what you pay for. Found the set button in the back difficult to work with. Now the product would not reset and will have to be replaced.

Comments about CatEye Velo 8 Wired Cycle Computer:

I bought this device to use on a stationary bike. However, the cable from the sensor on the seat stay to the computer mounted as directed on the bars was not quite long enough to reach the bars. It reached only the stem, so a user has to look sideways at the dial to read it while exercising. I realize I could have avoided the problem with a wireless computer. And looking sideways isn't all that bad as downsides go. But all it would have taken to secure the standard link to the bars would have been another 6 to 12 inches of cable.

I have uses those several times now and seems to work fine with all the features except the odometer. It is inaccurate, it will almost double my mileage. Not sure if their is a setting but will double check. Other than its good bang for the buck.

Comments about CatEye Velo 8 Wired Cycle Computer:

My daughter and I installed this computer on her bike last weekend. It was easy to install and worked like a champ. The only problem we had was working through the maze of the menu to get everything adjusted. This is my 4th computer to install and the most difficult to setup after installed. The instructions were for two different models and maybe the menu resembles the other model more closely. I usually click right through and have it going pronto never using the instructions. This was a different story. Be prepared for some trial and error. It works like a charm after the setup was complete and the screen was easy to read. My daughter loved being able to check her stats. Still love CatEye despite the setup challenges on this one. They make a great product.

Comments about CatEye Velo 8 Wired Cycle Computer:

I bought this because I'm too cheap and lazy to move any of my other three or four from my other bikes. The price was right and all in all it works just fine. That being said, the cable was just barely long enough and as others have pointed out the tie wraps are pretty weak. The instructions came in about a dozen different languages and as far as I could tell none of them clearly written. Be VERY careful with the "set" button on back of unit, I used a pen and it got stuck. After 30 minutes and some words I hadn't used since my Navy days I finally got it working. I'd suggest an allen wrench that fits instead of ball point pen and be very careful to push straight down so as not to get the switch stuck. Not a five star product but then again it wasn't exactly expensive.

The Cat Eye 8 Velo is a nice bike computer. However, all of the zip ties broke. I had to buy all new ones. Not a big deal but I didn't expect to buy a new product and have to purchase zip ties.

Comments about CatEye Velo 8 Wired Cycle Computer:

Bought this because I read that it would fit on the same mount as my old, beloved (and now dead) CatEye Mity 3... which it does.

The instructions are straightforward enough but don't explain how to reset the thing or how you switch it from km to miles... at least not that I saw. That being said, this thing will only give you a 24hr time if you've got it set to km... and vice versa.. you only get 12hr time if you're set to miles. Not a big deal for me.. but I'm sure there's some folks out there that prefer their miles with 24hr time.

It's only got two buttons on it, a SET button on the back for setting the thing up and the one mode button on the front. So, it doesn't take too long to figure out how to set it and operate it.

Not sure how the "calories burned" feature can be accurate as I didn't have to enter in any weight or personal info. Plus, it doesn't measure if I'm pedaling or not. I probably could be coasting downhill for 100 miles and it would think I've burned 3000 calories. I'm guessing it probably just does an average multiplied by the number of miles you've ridden. So, I wouldn't take that number literally.

Overall, it's an inexpensive cycling computer and once set up seems easy to use, and easy to read, but will probably only last you a few years.

After two weeks velo-8 is working as specified. Can zero setting with one click. But I do take it inside to protect it each time I get off the bike. An old Cat-eye I had for 10 years and it stayed on the bike in all kinds of weather. This new one will not tolerate bad weather or sunshine.
