Great rack, especially for 20" wheel bike w/V-brakes

By Bob

About Me Commuter

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Low Cost

Cons

  • Missing Bolt - Reflector

Best Uses

  • Folding 20" Bike

Comments about Nashbar Front Rack:

Great little rack for the price. Relatively easy to install. On 20" wheel folding bike, appears perfect size, not "small", almost extends to front of wheel. Vertical position is perfect as brake post relationship is the same on 20" wheels versus 26". Deck is almost level, angled just a little bit back (better than forward), but that will vary depending on the brake post angle. A little concerned about the side rivets, but if they fail I will just replace with bolts and nuts. Bolt for front reflector bracket missing. I plan to put a small trunk bag on it.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I know it will do what I expect it to. The included hardware was perfect and if I wasn't a fumble fingers it would have taken 15 minutes to install.

      Comments about Nashbar Front Rack:

While I prefer to use a rear rack, carrying stuffing on it usually blocks my tail light mounted on the seat post. So this little rack is pretty handy for carrying my flat repair and bike tools. I want to find a small plastic or metal basket I could put on top, so I can more easily carry small items.
The price is just awesome for this product. Although I have not carried a lot of stuff on it nor have I had it very long, it seems relatively strong and could easily carry 15 pounds of stuff. I was able to install it right up against the v-brakes, without employing the spacers, and I believe it will be stronger without them.
Mine does not have the "Nashbar" logo on the rack, and that's just fine by me. Also, mine, too, was missing a small bolt, and I had to call Nashbar to get it.

Former bike messenger (ret.) Using rack for touring, just a place to bungie my sleeping bag. Easy install on my 700C Marin.
Brake stud replacement bolts were NOT longer than originals(to account for spacers), but seems to not be an issue. Fine for light duty.

              Comments about Nashbar Front Rack:

I use this front rack to hold my battery for the Motor that's in the front wheel. The motor came with too short a cable. The rack is just the right size for the battery. Only 3 screws to mount the rack. However, the screw on top that mounts the rack to the fork is a bigger diameter than the hole it is meant for. Nothing a drill can't fix. But bothersome if you don't have a drill. I have used the rack often since I bought it and I'm happy with it. Bottom line, think about that issue before buying the rack.

              Comments about Nashbar Front Rack:

I use this rack to hold the Battery for my e-bike. The Battery fits well on it. However, the bolt that fastens the rack to the top on the fork has a bigger diameter than the hole it is supposed to fit in. I had to drill the hole bigger to install the rack. Other than that, I have no complaints.

                Comments about Nashbar Front Rack:

Mounted on 700c fork with included hardware. Easy to mount to cantilever studs, but forming mounting bracket to not interfere with centerpull brakes was interesting. With NB lo-rider front rack, should provide ample front space and capacity for gear for any level of ride/tour. This rack is a great value and seems pretty sturdy.

I bought this so I could "ditch the backpack" on my daily commute. Its perfect for a small cooler, uniforms, etc.,or stabilizing a large handlebar bag. Easy to install, and the price is right. Perfect for light bulky loads.
