Gel ride bib shorts

By John

Pros

  • Breathable
  • Dries Quickly

Cons

  • Relaxed Fit
  • Too Much Padding

Best Uses

  • Rides Under 30 Miles

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

I ride 20-50 miles 4-5 times a week so.etimes more time permitting. The chamois is quite thick though the positioning of the pad may be the real culprit. On Longer rides I feel it roll under me and like an over cushioned saddle puts pressure on the perineum. Fidgeting about gets it realigned but nuisance. Contemplating returning and trying a smaller size or exchanging for another brand. I usually wear pearl izumi attack.

Chamois is way too thick

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

The chamois on this is way too thick. I didn't even ride with them, just threw the bike on a trainer to see how they felt and the pressure on perineal nerve from the start. Wasn't going to ride in them and risk not being able to return them. The gel padding is about half an inch thick. I have wider than normal sitbones so the padding wasn't wide enough either but that's probably not an issue for "normal" people. I ride a 150mm saddle FWIW.

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

So, I read all the reviews before I purchased these noting the comments about the gel chamois. Well, after a couple of months I do take issue with the padding. I think the shorts are well made. Nice material, flat stitching and the fit was good. The gel chamois thing though.... I don't know, I'm kind of squishing around on the saddle during a ride and it's causing some chafing. I've always been better off with less padding as far as the seat and chamois. I think these will be relegated to very short rides for me anyway. I wish they would make the same bib with a non-gel chamois then they would be perfect for me. Got them on sale, at least I'm not out big bucks.

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

For years I could predict what a Nashbar Large was. Now two orders in a row very disappointing.

The thighs on the large that I ordered have room for a water bottle in each leg.
Last time I ordered large tights, they were super small at the thigh.

Consistency is important Nashbar!

Will not return, just won't rush buy Nashbar brand in the future.

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

I have had and loved other nashbar bibs. The pads in previous ones were thin and quite adequate. These, however had a pad that looked like I had an extremely full diaper. From my previous experience with their shorts, I discarded all shipping paperwork and packaging, opting to try them on later. A mistake, one look at the pad from the rear, and they went into the "extra clothes" pile. Will attempt to remove pad and use as workout wear.

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

I read all the reviews. I've got no complaints. Gel padding is good. Thinner than some non-gel bibs I have so, less of an adult diaper feel. I'm 6'1" 240 (and dropping) 37"w. Went with the large. I got in them. True to size.

Comments about Nashbar Gel Ride Bib Short:

I purchased 2 pair of these bib shorts as they were on sale (My original selection of LG bib shorts were not in Stock). They are pretty comfortable, however, I cannot comment on durability or drying time as I have only worn each bib once. But, so far I am happy with the purchase.

Very comfortable, gel chamois is not oversized, yet big enough for proper coverage. The grip on the legs are perfect. Sometimes these can be uncomfortable, however, these are soft, yet hold nicely.
