Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

The Stand By Me bike stand is suitable for the purpose for which it was intended: to support the rear wheel of a bike in order to work on the drive train and rear brakes. It is not a fully-supporting shop stand and will not bear up to major torquing of fasteners. I would recommend this stand for anyone wishing to do light maintenance.

The only downside to this stand is the fact that the assembly instructions are vague and hidden on the bottom of the box, but assembly is pretty much a no-brainer once you look it over, so this con is extremely minor.

        Works on a Brompton Bike

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

I have a Brompton folding bike and it is very hard to find a stand that will work. Tried others and this is the best for an inexpensive stand. Good for cleaning the bike and chain. Can do some minor adjustments. If unstable put a 3/4" piece of pvc about 18" long on the leg and it is a quick fix. Just what I was looking for.

Use to hold bike upright without dragging full work stand out. Use for cleaning frame after rides, adjusting chain. I found that by angling rubber mounted supports perpendicular to the angle of the frame works best for me. Good solid product.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

This is a nice, simple product that I was eager to use. Simple to setup, well designed, sturdy. But I couldn't get it to work with my bike (it took me a while to convince myself that by adjusting the one adjustable arm that it still didn't work.). The problem is that my Specialized Robaix Pro frame has seat stays that arc inwards towards the spokes. This is the point where the stand must hit that stay. I will sit there, but not without the hook going into the rear wheel. Thus no possible to turn the wheel for cleaning or oiling.

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

It's 'kinda' sturdy. For just a basic bike stand that keeps you leaning up against a wall, etc - it does a fine job. For cleaning the chain and etc - it does a fine job as well.

Not nearly sturdy enough for full blown mechanical work, but I don't think that's what it's intended for.

                Folding? Not.

                By momus

                About Me Casual/ Recreational

Comments about Nashbar Stand By Me:

Plan to use this unit on two different bikes. Truthfully I just received it, so I'm still in the process of adjusting/checking it out. But a couple of observations: Contrary to the specs, this thing does NOT fold. So disabuse yourself of the portability of the Stand by Me.
The people who claim that they take it to races, etc like it's some kind of Swiss Army knife, must have large backpacks or put it in their trunks. The base legs are rigid, NOT folding.
Second, I have seen comments about stability. I noticed while assembling, that unless you correctly bolt the base onto the stand so that the leg attachments are parallel to the stand pole, the pole may inhibit stability.
If it doesn't work for me, I'll probably keep it anyway, because a return cost equal to almost 1/2 the price of the unit does not justify the hassle. Funny how that works out.
