Comments about Nashbar Disc/V-Brake Compatible Road Bike Fork:

Had bought a multi-use bike a few weeks ago, loved the bike except for the heavy front end caused by the suspension forks, not a real suspension fork fan to begin with. wished I had found the same bike with a plain fork but doing so gave up some other stuff, too. Saw this fork here at Nasbar, liked what I saw, liked the weight, 3 lb over the 5+ of the shock fork, and really liked the price. It arrived a day earlier than promised, well packaged for shipping. Had never changed out a thread-less fork and head set before but it wasn't too hard to do and pretty soon was up and riding. Rode a mile or so then rechecked and tightened as needed. Then went for a longer ride about town and on the biking path, about 10 miles. Not the first problem. Build and machining is accurate and things are straight, bike handles a bit quicker and feels more positive. Need to mention, the bike is near new with less than 50 miles on it and a department store bike on top of that. I also ordered the shim kit to go with the fork, thinking the front height of the bike would be lower, glad I did because the front is a bit lower now. Using the shims in that kit, got the handle bar right back to near where it was before if not a bit higher. Had to remember to add those shims before I made my cut mark.Hardest part was moving the bottom bearing race from one fork to the other and getting it positioned & set properly. I'm a very happy camper. Have ordered several parts and accessories from Nashbar over the years and have never returned the first thing.

Decent but technical specs are incorrect

By Kyle the commuter

from Lexington, KY

Comments about Nashbar Disc/V-Brake Compatible Road Bike Fork:

The stated 370mm axle to crown measurement for this fork is incorrect. It's possible that by this it means 370mm available radial distance for a tire.

The actual axle to crown measurement (typically defined as the distance from the center of the axle to the center bottom of the crown race seat) is greater than 400mm, likely about 410mm (I didn't measure it accurately).

Robust = Heavy

By Bike build #4

About Me Commuter

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Would Survive A Bomb

Cons

  • Heavy

Best Uses

Comments about Nashbar Disc/V-Brake Compatible Road Bike Fork:

Claimed weight is 1332g, but weighs 1458g. For a flat-land commuter, this isn't great.

The finish is nice, and the disc brake capability provides lots of potential, but the touring is frame fork is half the weight, and a little cheaper...

Comments about Nashbar Disc/V-Brake Compatible Road Bike Fork:

Bought it for a build for my son. It's heavy and it's gloss black. The CX frame here is matte black, so they don't really match, but it looks fine on the bike. It's solid and rides nice, but very heavy. Fine for it's intended purpose.

Comments about Nashbar Disc/V-Brake Compatible Road Bike Fork:

This fork is good and strong, but it's way heavy. Right now I've got it on a Nashbar cyclocross frame set up as a single speed pseudo-mountain bike, and it works great for that. I wouldn't want it on a bike I planned to race. Even for a commuter it seems kind of heavy, but it would definitely handle potholes and stuff fine.

I'd been riding a lot of dirt roads on the road bike, so I thought I would just convert it to cross.I was on a tight budget and figured I would save money with this fork Only flaw is it is HEAVY! Besides than that it works fine.
