Nashbar Moustache Handlebar
Add some hand positions to your favorite bike. Moustache bars are ideal for commuting, moderate length road rides, fire roads and non-paved roads, and light to moderate single track. Mount up road brake levers and bar-end shifters and soon you will discover:
  • The multiple hand positions offer a good place to ride in nearly any situation
  • They provide a wider, higher leverage stance for climbing than a drop bar (up to a 56cm width!)
  • The long ends allow you to push behind the saddle further for steep off-road descents
  • Made of good ole' steel with a 25.4mm clamp area, sized to fit road levers and road bar-end shifters (of course you can use your favorite down tube shifters too)
Nashbar Moustache Handlebar
  • WEIGHT 666g (520mm)
  • MATERIAL Steel
  • SWEEP N/A
  • CLAMP 25.4mm
  • RISE 80mm drop; 100mm reach
  • LENGTH Center-center: 520mm, 560mm
  • Rating 4.5

Heavy Metal

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Well made

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Wobbly

Best Uses

  • Commuting/City

Comments about Nashbar Moustache Handlebar:

She's a heavy beast at 666g(1.4lbs). The steel gets wobbly on rougher, high speed descents (Gravel). The 25.4 clamp is neither 25.4 or 26.0. I made a shim from the wall of a beer can to fit it to a 26.0 Nitto. The 80mm drop is more than the Nitto by 30mm(1.18") or the Soma by 20mm, so keep that in mind if you're a big on bike fit.
Shimano Barend shifters went right in, no problem.

Otherwise, it's a good product at an unbeatable price, just twice the weight of the competition.

GREAT GENERAL PURPOSE ROAD BAR

By HSDad

from Pittsburgh, PA

About Me Commuter

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Versatile

Cons

  • Stem Fit

Best Uses

  • Commuting/City
  • Road Biking

Comments about Nashbar Moustache Handlebar:

Once you get the bar positioned correctly, it's great. It has much more drop and more forward sweep than other mustache bars. So you'll need a higher stem rise and less reach in the stem. I used an old 1" quill ATB stem. I also used an old pair of Campy Super Record brake levers (exposed cables). It's truly great for all commuting and general "towny" riding now. Pretty good for $12.

The only issue was that the clamp area is larger than stated. In fact it was too large to slide easily into even a 26.0 stem. I used a steel stem finally so I could safely pry it open a bit and once it was in, it's been great ever since. No creaking at all and solid.

    Comments about Nashbar Moustache Handlebar:

When the setup with the traditional drop made me feel like I was doing toe-touches, I took a page from other reviewers books and flipped the bars and used the rise. Rather than shown brake setup, I have bar-end brakes. My setup is great for commuting, and I have enjoyed it on a few longer rides, too.

      Comments about Nashbar Moustache Handlebar:

I was looking for the widest moustache bar I could find, because I wanted multiple hand positions but didn't like bending down to drops on conventional road bars. These were the widest I could find and have a nice amount of drop. When you take them out of the Nashbar box you do notice that they are heavier than aluminum bars, but they weren't so heavy that I considered returning them.

I had a 1977 Waterford Paramount frame and decided to build a modern compact component bike. Just for fun I ordered these bars and have not, for even a second, regretted it. Extremely comfortable and they bring a lot of attention, admiration and questions.

replaced my drop bars with the moustache bars on my commuter bike. while i'll keep the drop bars on my road bike, these bars are fantastic for the commuter bike. it's a much more comfortable set-up and works great with the bar end shifters.

        Comments about Nashbar Moustache Handlebar:

I wasn't sure if I would like the feel of these handlebars, but I was really looking for a unique feel on my bike. These handlebars delivered! I was surprised how much I ended up liking them.

They have 2 main positions; 1) body in road bike position with hands over the brake levers for control 2) relaxed body with hands wide on the handle bars for cruise control comfort.

I'm still trying to get the brakes to feel right. The levers have a shorter range than the would on drop bars, so they brake soft.

To get the most comfortable position with these handlebars it helps to have a shorter stem.

These handlebars are great for casual commuter cycling.
