These are a great cross platform cleat. I have road bikes, mountain bikes and hybrid bikes. Using one cleat for all bikes just makes sense. im not racing but I enjoy my long rides and short commutes.

I`ve been using these pedals for 5 years and they are holding up great. Very durable. They needed breaking in at first, but once I had a couple thousand miles use on them they clip and unclip easy and spin easy. Good pedal.

Pretty Good, check bolts after each ride

Comments about Shimano A520 Sport/Touring Road Pedals:

Recently got these for road riding, and generally like them. They are supposed ot be used with recessed-sole road shoes, but I got flat-bottom shoes because shoe selection seemed fairly limited for the two-bolt cleat pattern. That might be the reason for the following issue-- not sure, but I've left a message with Shimano

That said, the cleats clip in very easily with pedals set for low tension. My only issue is with unclipping. My right shoe unclips easily; the left not so easily. Yesterday, I had trouble clipping in on the left side. When I stopped to take a break, I was unable to unclip the left shoe, even after unclipping and standing on my right foot. So, I had to open the Velcro shoe closures, remove my foot from the shoe (While standing on one foot-- not so easy. Then, I was just able to twist the left shoe out of the pedal. The reason? One bolt was gone from the cleat; the other was loose, as was the cleat. I was lucky enough to have the correct hex wrench to tighten the lone bolt, and finish my ride with no problem.

        Check bolts after every ride!

Comments about Shimano A520 Sport/Touring Road Pedals:

I purchased these for a used road bike I recently purchased. The original platform pedals had to go-- and fast!

I like SPD pedals and cleats, as walking in the cleats is almost normal.

With these I purchased shoes without a recessed cleat area. In spite of that, clipping in is easy and sure. Both pedals were factory set to be REALLY tight, and difficult to use. A 3MM hex key took care of that. Now, clipping in is easy, but unclipping varies. My right shoe unclips easily. My left is tighter in the release. I have to check the tension on the left show, though I think it's adjusted to near its lightest setting.

All in all, I like these pedals. Even at a lighter setting, they offer great security, light weight, and very good value.

I ride 50-70 miles per week, though last week 111 miles, and today, with these pedals, 50.

even on the lightest setting they are a little hard to clip in. I think they are fine for the money. They will probably break in and loosen up. I didn't spend alot of money but I think I got what I paid for. I'm happy with them. If I had an expensive bike and rode a lot I would probably buy better ones.

Comments about Shimano A520 Sport/Touring Road Pedals:

Just installed these today on my Norco Valance C1, was using an older set of Look pedals but they were a pain to walk in, these work great when clipped in and comfortable to walk around when not. Was concerned they were single side entry but no problems clipping in at all. Currently using my shimano mountain bike shoes, but have a set pair of Giro Empire Shoes on order from a local bike shop, I expect they will be a great combo.
Will update after the shoes arrive and I get a few rides in.

This pedal has taken the pressure off a hot spot on my left foot. It provides a wider contact area to the pedal if you are using shoes with recessed cleats.

A great pedal at a great price. I converted to this after getting tired skidding around on my Look road pedal cleats. I do a lot of mtb riding and can now use the same shoes for both. Now what do I do with my look cleats, pedals and shoes??

Comments about Shimano A520 Sport/Touring Road Pedals:

I had to return these pedals. This was my first clipless pedal for my new flat-bar road bike, and it almost made me go back to safe platform pedals. I didn't notice there was a difference in road and MTB pedals; I'm on a steep learning curve after 18 years of platform pedals and toe straps. I do most of my riding at night and found out real fast that these pedals wouldn't work for my riding style. They naturally "hang" upside down and it was impossible for me to click-in the second pedal because I couldn't see whether it was upside down or right side up. That is unless there was a nearby street lamp or a full moon. I rode around in circles trying to clip-in that second pedal to no avail. I finally lost balance and fell hard, twice. Now I have a nasty bruise down one leg to remind me what a mistake I made. Also, they were too hard to click out of even at the weakest spring setting. I just couldn't make them work for me.
