Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Mountain Shifters:

I used these to convert a drop bar to a flat bar. Cable wires included, cable casing not included. Install was easy. The initial adjustment was perfect; I just pulled the wire tight, and no further adjustment was necessary.
These have been working perfectly, except: The effort to shift to a larger cog or larger chain wheel was more than I have experienced with other shifters. This shifter may not work well for children or others who do not have strong thumbs.

Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Mountain Shifters:

I purchased this set of shifters for my first bike build. This was a trail bike I was building up from scratch, with a limited budget. At the time, about two years ago, these shifters fit the bill. I built up a 1x9 drivetrain and had no intention of using the front shifter, only the rear for the cassette. Fit and finish have been fine. When shifting down, into low gear (big cogs) has a really long throw of the lever which I've gotten used to. However, an issue that has still persisted two years later is using the mid-range gears. My two middle cogs, I have to double shift (two clicks) to get the rear mech to switch and then I have to up shift a click to keep the rear mech from trying to skip gears. It's difficult to explain. Basically, it's not shifting smooth through the mid range gears. I've played with cable tension and completely removed and reinstalled the mech and shifter dozens of times and cannot resolve the issue. It may be the rear mech, which is also Nashbar, but I'm convinced it's the shifter. It's been fine for recreational riding for the past few years, but I recently started xc racing and I will likely swap out the components with another name brand in the coming weeks before my next race. For a recreational bike, I think this set of shifters is fine, but for reliable shifting for competition, I'd choose something else.

Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Mountain Shifters:

I was apprehensive trying an off brand of shifters. After 15 years, the Deore shifters finally gave out on my Gary Fisher so rather than spend $150 on XT's or use Deore again, I gave these a shot and I'm glad I did. They work better than the Deore's ever did.
Cables come with the set but to optimize performance I recommend installing new housing and ferrules as well.

          Awkward angle

Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Mountain Shifters:

The mechanisms work well and shifts are smooth.

However, like most trigger shifters, the left trigger only has 3 positions - no ability to trim the front der.

I'm unable to get a comfortable ergonomic angle for both the thumb shifter and the brake lever. Ideally I'd like the trigger shifter and the brake lever mounted inline, but the bulky workings of the trigger shifter unit does not allow this - and I've tried various brake levers.

May have to buy an integrated shifter / brake.

Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Mountain Shifters:

Installation and set-up were easier than I've ever encountered, and I've built many bikes. Shifting was fast and precise with a "S" rear derailleur (haven't tried the front yet since this is a 1X build). If this product proves to be durable I'm going to be using 9 speed for a long time and save lots of money. This has prompted me to try one of Nashbar's derailleurs. Another unbeatable, inexpensive product from them..

Comments about Nashbar 9-Speed Mountain Shifters:

I used them to build up an older tandem. I had a collection of 9spd parts around (Crank, Cluster) and used these along with the matching Rear Mtn. der. to complete the build.

Flawless shifting front and back. The front is mated to a Microshift brazeon and a Sugino XD600 tandem crankset.

Much better than shift levers that came with bike. Very fast shifting. Can even shift to lower rear going uphill. Bought 5 one for each bike. Great upgrade.
