Comments about Nashbar Universal Fit Mountain Rack:

It took my friend an I a good hour to get this thing mounted to my frame. I think part of the reason it took so long is that I have a pretty small road bike that I use for commuting, but I don't think it should have been so difficult. We actually had to warp the metal attachments so they would fit around the brakes. I wouldn't recommend this for smaller frames.

I put this rack on a hybrid bike. It was easy to install, taking only about 30 minutes, including the fine tuning of placement. I bought this rack to mount the nashbar daytrekker panniers on, great combo!

The rack had all the necessary hardware and went on without a hitch. It was well thought out. I could not imagine any of the more expensive racks providing any more utility or durability than this quality rack. If you are in the market for a Mountain bike rack buy this rack!

Comments about Nashbar Universal Fit Mountain Rack:

This rack is designed to mount on bikes with disk brakes, so it's very wide and the sides bow out. Yes, it is universal fit, and the included spacers mean you can mount it on a narrower frame, but that means you add extra inches of width on either side. The height is adjustable, but the distance from the top rail to the point where your panniers attach is abnormally short. On most racks I've used, that distance is about 12 inches. On this rack, it's about 10 inches. That means it won't work with one set of my panniers at all, and even Nashbar's own rear panniers fit on it very poorly, due to the short height and the curved front of the deck. I would return it but after all the shipping costs I don't think it would be worth the trouble. The one nice thing about it was that they included P-clamps with the hardware.

Comments about Nashbar Universal Fit Mountain Rack:

This is my first time using a bike rack. I attached to my commuter bike, and for the one month in use, the rack has performed well.

It took me about 45 minutes to assmeble and attach to my bike; came partially assembled, instruction diagram okay, but you will need a few tools (bike multi-tool and pliers).

I use the rack with a Detours 9 liter rack top bag. I have carried 10 lbs or less thus far and the rack is stable with no issues such as rattling (that does not apply to riding over giant craters in the street). I will soon use with panniers and more weight (up to 15 lbs). But so far so good.

Comments about Nashbar Universal Fit Mountain Rack:

As others have mentioned, rack is nice and light and seems quite durable...but it didn't fit my frame right out of the box. Even with the included P-Clamps, I had to go buy some different size screws/p-clamps...not a big deal, fits great otherwise, I was just a bit bummed because I have a Nashbar frame! Nashbar rack doesn't really fit Nashbar frame w/o additional components...

Comments about Nashbar Universal Fit Mountain Rack:

"Universal" is a big claim, but this rack really should fit a wide range of bikes. The upright strut has three height adjustments screw-holes that can clear different height tires, spacers are included to clear disk brakes, and the horizontal strips to reach the seat stays can be adjusted very long. There's even a set of P clamp brackets included it you lack a set of fittings. This is a lightweight rack, and that and the compromises that allow that universal adjustability mean this is not a heavy duty touring rack. I'd even be hesitant about some of grocery-getting loads I undertake with this rack. But for use within it's weight limits, this rack is good value. I've installed it on my new winter bike (Schwinn 411 IG5, 700cm/29" tires, longer wheelbase, disk brakes). Some racks would be a challenge to fit on this bike, and this one went on great.

Comments about Nashbar Universal Fit Mountain Rack:

I just installed this rack on my wife's mountain bike. I must say, I'm impressed. It's as solid as my famous maker version, is more adjustable for height, it's almost half the price and just as well made, and now that Nashbar has replaced the word "Nashbar" on the deck with it's stylized "N", it looks just as good as any rack out there. I did appreciate the additional hardware making it possible to attach the rack to the stays instead of the eyelets on the dropouts, as it was just too close to the chain and cogs on the drivetrain side. The secondary choice of installation actually made it possible to install a rack on this particular bike. When they say "universal fit" they really mean it.
