Good rack, bad pack

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

The rack itself is heavy but extremely sturdy, and worth the purchase on its own.

The bag, however, is junk. Within a month one of the fold-down compartments had torn while commuting, spilling my stuff onto the pavement--and that's just from normal bumps in the road. Two months, the velcro straps would no longer keep the darned thing secured to the rack, leading me to use bungie cords to keep it down. A few months later the other side gave up the ghost, and now the main compartment is tearing away at the stitching.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

Had to buy four clips to try to attach to stays but still couldn't make it fit. Gave up and bought a light rack that clamps to the seat post.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

I commute a few times a week and so far, these are working pretty well. I like the bright yellow fold down compartments. It's easy to attach to the rack.

First time I used them, one zipper on the main compartment came off because the zipper wasn't securely sewn into the seam. It had 2 zippers, so I was able to use them several more times. This morning, the other zipper came off, now they are useless. I will return them for another one, because I like them overall.

Just check the zippers before you use them.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

I commute 8 miles round trip daily. This is the perfect size for change of clothes and my 10" laptop. Unfortunately both panniers have completely torn away from the seam and are not repairable. The trunk rack is decent but the bags are not able to really handle anything.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

Used this pack on the back of a tandem for an overnight trip. It had enough room for a change of clothes, and bathroom supplies for 4 people. It attached nice with 6 velcro straps. My problem was that one of the side bags was already torn at the seam,....and I was already away from home when I went to use it. I was able to pack so that things didn't fall out, but did notice that the stitching was not too strong. I will re-stitch the bag, and that will be fine, but you shouldn't have to do that with a new bag.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

The rack mounted well enough. It seems to be sturdy. I don't have a rear light that will attach to the back. The bag appears to be a small rack bag until you fold out the side bags. I can get good size cereal boxes in the side bags. The bag easily holds a second pair of shoes if you plan on doing an day touring so if you stop along the way you can put on sandals or something on to walk around.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

Received this combo bag/rack today. Bag is nice, and I'm a big fan of the fold-down pannier design (these are some of the largest I have seen) and how it reveals hi-viz yellow panels when needed, along with reflective striping. The lid flap had 2 zipper pouches for small items. The capacity is listed as 1271 cu. in., which is good for a rack bag. It doesn't have the foam padding like many rack bags, but rather has a stiff plastic liner that wraps down one end, across the bottom, and up the other end. Looks like it will hold up to long-term use, but only time will tell for sure.

The rack: in spite of it's solid tubing that suggests "heavy duty", it's not built for mtn biking or cross-country touring IMO because the top plate has 4 rivets holding it in place instead of welds, though Delta rates it for a whopping 60 lbs. It does have a central support on both sides in addition to the rear braces, unlike what is pictured. Also, there is a tab for a rear reflector or light, though it is thin and bendable. The rack's clever design and solid materials tell me it could have been a great rack, but the iffy riveted construction allows it to dissassemble and fold flat. This might help some users travel with it, but mostly helps the retailer store and ship it, rendering the rack "light duty" only.

Comments about Delta Day Bag with MegaRack Ultra:

I've been on the fence about getting a rear rack and trunk set and I am happy with this purchase. Everything went together easily and feels nice and sturdy. Looks pretty good too and I really like the HiVis yellow when the side bags are open.

          Rack:
The rack is very sturdy and easily adjustable. One of the better racks I have come across for this price point on my shopping ventures.

          Trunk Bag:
The main compartment on the trunk bag is of solid construction and has plenty of room (holds my belt, size 12 dress shoes, shower items, carrying strap and some small tools). The side bags are made of a little thinner material than I was hoping for but I have no doubt it will hold up when carrying my clothes. I am a bit weary about putting my laptop in one for transport so I will most likely end up reinforcing it by sewing in an additional layer of material.

I'll be sure to comment back on durability after some good use or first failure.
