Great rollers

Comments about Elite Arion Mag Rollers:

First time using a trainer/rollers. I didn't know what to expect but am happy I bought these.

It took a few minutes to get used to riding on rollers. Your first reaction is to steer to correct yourself but that is a big problem; only minor adjustments are needed. At first, you may not want to ride at a fast speed, but you quickly notice that you are most unstable at slow speeds. Riding at 20Km/h or faster is very stable.

They are pretty quiet but to be honest I don't know how loud they are because I blow a fan on high in my face and use earbuds during the ride. They do seem pretty quiet otherwise.
I suggest a fan to keep you cool. Also using one of those cooling sports towels around your neck works. Otherwise, your salty sweat can do damage to your bike components. You can also tie a small towel around your seat post and twist it once and attach the other end to your bars in a triangle to help catch any sweat.

The rollers are obviously off the ground so you are riding that much higher off the ground. If you ride off the roller, your wheel stops spinning and you will fall to the side. Being higher up, you have farther to reach your leg to touch ground.

They came in a box ready to go. I have a 61cm XL frame and they came ready to go without adjustment needed. There are several holes that you can use for different wheel widths and a tool was included... Although there's no spot I saw to store it.

The unit folds in half so you can store it somewhere out of the way... Although I find my bike is what gets in the way. If anything, folding would be more convenient for transporting it somewhere else.

The ride is smooth, but I did not expect it to be as difficult as it was... Energy wise. The first time I rode on it, I was exhausted in 15 minutes. I later read online that it's better if you overinflate your tires. I think they were low before so I blew them up to around 112psi (90-110 tubes) and the ride was much easier with less resistance... still harder than riding on the road. I ride on a fixed gear bike, so the inertia of riding helps push your legs around on the road where your inertia of staying still on the rollers will add a lot of drag holding your feet back making it harder to turn. If you stop applying force on the fixed gear, the rollers will stop very quickly. There are mag resistance settings, but I don't find a need to use them.

All of the rollers have a band track on both sides. I think this would allow you to attach a flywheel that might make it feel more like riding fixed (flywheel might keep forward spinning momentum to push on your pedals).

Overall, it feels like cheap plastic in your hands. This makes it pretty light, but when opened up, feels very stable while riding on them.

The rollers are "parabolic" which gives a false impression. I think if there was a real parabolic curve to the overall roller so it got thicker near the edges. It seems that would help you naturally stay in the center. Instead, there's a little bump on the edges and the whole roller otherwise is flat. If you're all the way over near the edge, it doesn't take much to ride over that bump, but would be better at stopping a ride-off compared to a totally flat roller.

These were well worth the money for riding through the winter. Yes, they are boring and yes, it seems like you should have gone farther than you do because you don't move, but it sure beats riding a stationary bike. I sure enjoy it more than what I'd expect from a trainer.

I would suggest using the rollers next to a wall or counter (better) and to think about a raised platform on the other side. That will help you get on and off easier and will also give you something to stand on if you ride off and start to tip.

Great product. Highly recommended.

Comments about Elite Arion Mag Rollers:

Recently bought this trainer from Nashbar and I love it. I have a big family and need to squeeze in a workout whenever I can. This mag trainer allows me to grab a water bottle and hop on my bike (in my office) and hammer the pedals for 30-60 minutes. Two things to note:

You will sweat. A lot. Get an old beach towel down on the floor beneath the trainer.

If possible, wear a HRM so you can be accountable and make sure you're not slacking.

Also, the first few minutes will be tough. Set it up in a hallway and stick with it. After 15-20 minutes you'll get the hang of it. Helps to get your head up and focused on something 6-10 feet out front. Also lower your pedal tension so you can pop out as easily as possible.

The only real flaw is that you cannot change the mag setting without getting off your bike. Otherwise this is a perfect fit for my needs.

Comments about Elite Arion Mag Rollers:

I've cycled for years, but at age 54, had never bought or used a set of rollers as a serious option to fixed indoor trainers. However, this year I bought these rollers to broaden my experience and to improve my balance and pedal stroke. I chose this model because it has built-in, magnetic (i.e. silent - or nearly so)resistance.

It arrived promptly and fully assembled; two qualities I enjoy in a potentially complicated piece of equipment. Basically all I had to do was air up the tires on my bike, set the wheel base length, unfold the unit, and ride. After only a few minutes, I was up and rolling!

This unit is smooth, light weight, easily portable, and quiet. My only objection, and it's a very minor one, is that the resistance unit, which has 3 settings, has no off setting - where the unit will roll freely. However, the lowest setting is easy enough that anyone with even a few miles on their legs should have no problem with it, yet it provides a good workout for the beginner.

So far I have just over 12 hours on these rollers and look forward to many more.
