Nashbar Rain Jacket
Who likes being wet and cold. We don't, that's for sure. So we always remember to bring our Nashbar Rain Jackets with us when the sky looks threatening. It's made with eco-friendly PEVA plastic, a polymer that is so awesome it's even legal in California. We also incorporated some mesh vents to keep you cool, and a reflective stripe on the rear to keep you safe.
  • PEVA plastic construction is water proof and Earth- friendly
  • See-through material lets you show off your jersey even in the rain
  • Meets all California regulations
  • Mesh vents keep air moving through and keep you from overheating
  • Reflective rear stripe for safety
  • Elasticized cuffs

Pros

  • compact
  • Fits very well
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Clammy when warm but this is expected

Best Uses

  • Commuting/City
  • Road Biking

Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

Simple and fits very well, close to the body. Velcro closure works well. Waterproof and therefore clammy especially when warm, but that is expected and better than getting pelted and soaked with rain.

      Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

Shower curtain material with mesh sides. No way this keeps you dry. The mesh lets in rainwater while the front and back sweat you to death.

        Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

Fits real close, so if you want a looser fit get one size larger. I wanted a clear rain jacket so that my jerseys would still show without breaking the bank. It does crinkle a lot though.

        Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

I purchased this for a 7 day, 400 mile bike-packing trip. Unfortunately, I had to use it. While the temperature outside was in the mid 70's, I ended up sweating so badly that the jacket was useless. Had I taken it off, I would have been just as wet from the rain as I was the sweat. I will be buying a higher grade, breathable jacket.

            Decent Jacket for Brief Showers

            By Cameron

            • Good visibility
            • Lightweight

            Cons

            • Poor Breathe-ability
            • Velcro Closure

            Best Uses

            • Commuting/City

            Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

            Pros:
            - Lightweight
            - Reflective strip on back provides good visibility
            - Keeps rain out for short trips

            Cons:
            - By far, the biggest issue for me was that the Velcro closure causes snags/pulls in jerseys worn underneath. In fact, it has basically ruined two of my jerseys. This issue primarily lead to my decision to return it for a refund.
            - Poor breathe-ability, so sweat quickly builds up underneath. My commute is generally 6-7 miles, and I was soaked with sweat every time I wore this.
            - Lack of flexibility, so it does not fit in jersey pockets very conveniently
            - When it gets wet inside, it takes some effort to hang it up so that it breathes enough to dry. This is particularly true in the sleeves. Because of the type of material (shower curtain-like), it tends to stick to itself.

              Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

This product was okay. You get what you pay for. Its design is very rigid and does not fold too nicely to fit into tight spaces or rear pockets. The mesh vents don't really seem to get too much airflow either. I have a 7 mile commute and it got uncomfortable and I started to overheat. But at the price,it's a killer deal. I think it would be better for shorter commutes and rides. A more foldable and product would be better for everyone else.

              Comments about Nashbar Rain Jacket:

I bought one of these for myself and my wife (she digs the jacket). As mentioned in the pros, I like the reflective strip, ventilated arms and sides, and fitted cuffs. My one turn off about the jacket is the velcro front. It gets caught on other materials as well as the ventilation mesh. I also feel as if that's not as secure as a zipper. I could also benefit from having a pocket or two on there. Killer value though and it will keep you dry!
