Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump - G.O.T.D. April 2013 - Bicycling Magazine
Every cyclist needs a top quality floor pump and in that realm you'll be incredibly well-served with the Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump. Not only does it's stunningly orange hue stand out from the crowd, performance-wise it's a marvel of efficiency and sheer pumping power. With plenty of pumps at our disposal here at Nashbar, the L'Orange V.2 is the go-to inflator of choice for quick, effortless inflation - all in an incredibly well-constructed, built to last package.

But don't take our word for it, check out why this Nashbar floor pumped was awarded Bicycling Magazine's G.O.T.D. award in April 2013:

"The new V.2 improves on the features we loved in the original L'Orange, a pump we praised for its ability to move large volumes of air. The 28-inch tall barrel, combined with the long hose, also makes it easy reach bikes mounted in a repair stand.

"To improve durability, Nashbar gave the pump an alloy barrel, and easy-to-service O-ring style cup at the end of a large diameter plunger shaft. The cast aluminum, tripod-style base holds a large, easy-to-read gauge (bold numbers on a white background) with rotating bezel, which makes it easy to hit your preferred pressure. The V.2 also has a turned wood handle that feels great in your hand, a locking alloy pump head, and improved hose clip.

"The hose clip and pump head were my favorites of the new features. I'm left handed and often place my left foot on the base to stabilize it while pumping with only my left hand. The new clip is reversible, so users can choose which side of the pump the hose resides on when not in use, making it easy to grab when you're ready to inflate a tire. It may seem a small detail, but adapting to the user's preferred ergonomics is a nice benefit--one you'll appreciate the more your use your pump. The head still features a release valve to easily lower tire pressure if you pump too much, but it no longer automatically adjusts between presta and Schrader valves. Instead, you get a simpler--and more durable--reversible model that easily grabs even short valve stems. To switch between the two types of valves, users simply unscrew the end of the head and flip it over. Each side is engraved with the type of valve it's meant for, eliminating confusion. The new head design was simple to use and easily locked on to valves with one hand, a bonus when you're inflating a team's worth of bikes."--Mike Yozell

        Comments about Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump - G.O.T.D. April 2013 - Bicycling Magazine:

There is a reason the original L'Orange received so many great reviews. It was a great pump, and it was inexpensive. I can't understand why Nashbar changed the pump, but I wish they hadn't. The original had the dial at the top of the pump. They are easier to damage there, when the pump tips over, but they're easier to read. Also, the old pump had a bulky adapter that didn't look very nice, but it didn't leak. I have a difficult time getting the new adapter to seal on my presta valves. Also, the new valve must be flipped around when switching from presta to schraeder. The old adapter worked on both. Nashbar still sells the old adapter, so I will be buying one of those to put on my new pump, but that still doesn't fix the gauge. The old pump was literally as accurate as my digital gauge. I stopped using the digital gauge. The old gauge had markings every 2 pounds, so if you centered between them, you really could dial in the pressure to the nearest pound. The new gauge only has markings every 5 pounds. It definitely leaves more room for error. It's fine for road tires, but when you're dialing mountain bike pressures to around 22psi, it just isn't precise enough. I'm back to using my digital gauge, and I really try to make sure I have my old pump with me. This new one is just my spare.

This pump flat out works awesome! It is quick and accurate. I was able to go from 40lbs to 110lbs on my 700x23mm tires in three easy strokes. You can feel the quality difference the first time you use it. I can't believe I wasted all those years using a cheap, weak and leaky pump. For me, this revolutionizes and defines what a proper tire pumping experience should be. I plan to purchase another one and throw out my other inept pumps.

          Comments about Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump - G.O.T.D. April 2013 - Bicycling Magazine:

The pump itself is excellent, kind of funny to use, the handle comes almost to my chin (I'm 70 in tall) when extended! It has an awesome huge handle, like grabbing a baseball bat sideways, even 120 psi is easy to pump. Nice cast metal base, very stable, huge gage, the hose keeper clip is very secure.
I just don't get the chrome tire valve locking lever. Every other pump I've had locked on the valve by pushing the lever toward the tire in the same direction as the force needed push the pump head onto the valve stem.
With this pump, you have to push the head on the valve, hold it like all heads so you don't lose half the air in the tire while simultaneously pulling up on the lever and down on the head stem so the valve stem isn't bent to the side. Takes a lot of force in 2 directions to do this while turning the lever. A three handed job to pump a tire!
Taking the head off is backward, too: grab the barrel and pull up hard while pushing down on the locking lever. Be sure to pull up straight or air is lost.
So, before I do wreck a tube, I'm going to either remove the locking lever and grind it down to where it locks when closed instead of opened or get a different head.
Except for the design goof on the locking lever and huge amount of force needed to connect the head the pump would be perfect.

          Recommended with caveats.

              Comments about Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump - G.O.T.D. April 2013 - Bicycling Magazine:

On the surface, I love everything about this pump. Long hose, long pump, unscrew to switch from P to S. But I have to send it back because the pressure gauge is totally inaccurate.

At rest the gauge reads 20-25 psi. I attach it to a valve to pump a tire and it reads 120 psi, and I know the tire is < 100. I tested it against 2 other pumps - my old one and the one I keep at the office. This this is consistantly reading 20-30 psi above my other pumps.

Totally unusable. Sending it back today.

Solid Bike Pump. Owned an older Nashbar pump that died after over 10 years of use so I came back to Nashbar for another one. Pumped easily. The only con I have noticed this far is for pumping up balls. The dial does not really begin until 20psi. YOur guessing when you are filling something up below 10. Would have liked if the dial started at 5psi as most soccer balls/ basketballs pump to that pressure.
