Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump - G.O.T.D. April 2013 - Bicycling Magazine
Every cyclist needs a top quality floor pump and in that realm you'll be incredibly well-served with the Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump. Not only does it's stunningly orange hue stand out from the crowd, performance-wise it's a marvel of efficiency and sheer pumping power. With plenty of pumps at our disposal here at Nashbar, the L'Orange V.2 is the go-to inflator of choice for quick, effortless inflation - all in an incredibly well-constructed, built to last package.

But don't take our word for it, check out why this Nashbar floor pumped was awarded Bicycling Magazine's G.O.T.D. award in April 2013:

"The new V.2 improves on the features we loved in the original L'Orange, a pump we praised for its ability to move large volumes of air. The 28-inch tall barrel, combined with the long hose, also makes it easy reach bikes mounted in a repair stand.

"To improve durability, Nashbar gave the pump an alloy barrel, and easy-to-service O-ring style cup at the end of a large diameter plunger shaft. The cast aluminum, tripod-style base holds a large, easy-to-read gauge (bold numbers on a white background) with rotating bezel, which makes it easy to hit your preferred pressure. The V.2 also has a turned wood handle that feels great in your hand, a locking alloy pump head, and improved hose clip.

"The hose clip and pump head were my favorites of the new features. I'm left handed and often place my left foot on the base to stabilize it while pumping with only my left hand. The new clip is reversible, so users can choose which side of the pump the hose resides on when not in use, making it easy to grab when you're ready to inflate a tire. It may seem a small detail, but adapting to the user's preferred ergonomics is a nice benefit--one you'll appreciate the more your use your pump. The head still features a release valve to easily lower tire pressure if you pump too much, but it no longer automatically adjusts between presta and Schrader valves. Instead, you get a simpler--and more durable--reversible model that easily grabs even short valve stems. To switch between the two types of valves, users simply unscrew the end of the head and flip it over. Each side is engraved with the type of valve it's meant for, eliminating confusion. The new head design was simple to use and easily locked on to valves with one hand, a bonus when you're inflating a team's worth of bikes."--Mike Yozell

    Comments about Nashbar L'Orange V.2 Floor Pump - G.O.T.D. April 2013 - Bicycling Magazine:

I've had this pump for about a year and it's been used to inflate many bike tires, Schrader and Presta valves and numerous car tires. The pump itself is excellent, easy to use and moves a lot of air. The head is awful, couldn't be worse. I explained all the problems with the design in a review in Aug '15, but having to push the head onto a valve while pulling up and rotating the locking handle is bad design, makes no sense.
The head on my pump would never engage a valve correctly without high force and was almost impossible to remove after filling the tire. Lubing it didn't make any difference.
The aluminum threads in the schrader/presta adapter eventually got stuck and required pliers to turn. Lube helped this and the sticky o rings a bit.
The last straw was last week, when switching from Presta to Scrader, the insides of the adapter sprung out and flew into my lawn, gone forever, no way to get air into a tire after that.
Fix was to cut off the complicated head, throw it away and buy a Scipa Schrader chuck and add my trusty brass Presta adapter when needed. This works fantastic, push on, it locks; squeeze lock lever and pull off after pumping. Vastly simpler and far easier.

I do not recommend this pump; I'm returning mine for a refund. The pump doesn't interface with the tube stem properly. For whatever reason, air won't flow into the tube. I've monkeyed with it and tried varies things; all in all, very poor pump design. And yes, I've tried various tubes, and yes, the stem valve is open.

Needed a new pump and didn't want to spend a lot of money. Pump is excellent and easy to use. The gauge is also large enough that I don't have to be wearing my glasses in order to read it. The only drawback is that shorter riders may find it difficult to use as the tube is pretty tall, making it even taller when you're actually using it.

Several years ago I ordered one of these pumps, and wound up sending it back because the chuck head leaked and was difficult to use, and also the thing was not made well. It rattled like a bolt in a bucket. I bought a pump made in Europe that was solid and dependable for several years until the gauge quit working. Because of lots of good reviews I decided to try the Nashbar L'orange pump again. Guess what... the same thing happened. Same problems, and I bought the same European pump. Was I just unlucky, or are my standards too high?

I am a huge fan of the original pump. The o-ring on it finally gave out and I was unable to get a new one. So I ordered this pump. It works OK but the lever to attach to the valve is much harder to operate and the pump squeaks a little in operation. Does not operate as smooth as the original.

Ordered this pump a couple of years ago, and sent it back because it leaks, and the chuck was difficult to manage. Decided to give it another try, since the reviews were good. I thought that maybe issues had been resolved (loyal customer). Nope... it rattled like a bolt in a bucket and the chuck was not secure and leaky. Sent it back again.
