Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

Great bike, reasonably priced. Comfortable both on the road and off road. Just need to get a comfortable seat, the one that comes with it feels like it was made back in the 1800's. Really sore on the lower end. Most of it came together, and my neighbor did the rest of the completion of the job. Well worth the price and quality.

Quality components but difficult brake assembly/adjustment

Cons

  • Brake Assemblyadjustment

Best Uses

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

Pros: Bike frame comes assembled with rear tire and rear brake. Assembly of front fork and handle bars is relatively simple even without instructions. Customer Service does respond promptly to questions. Fast shipping.
Cons: Difficult to assemble front brake cable to get the right balance of cable tension w/o rubbing the wheel. I ended up having to file off some of the brake pad to obtain enough clearance to prevent rubbing with enough brake lever tension.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

I got this bike in 2011 as a Father's Day gift. It went through Hurricane Sandy & is still going. I have put plenty of miles on it & my brother is now going to buy one. Great for those who want a quality bike at a fair price. It handles NYC streets just fine.

Cheap & Cheery but No Assembly Instructions

    By Bill the Walker

    from Stowe, VT

    About Me Casual/ Recreational

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

    Decent, entry level bike.

    Front brakes are very cheap.

Also of note: Nashbar DOES NOT INCLUDE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS OF ANY KIND - just a parts list. If you e-mail them they'll send you to a vague YouTube or suggest a parts shop. Not very helpful at all.

Assembly is hardly rocket science, but it's downright laughable they don't do you the favor of including instructions.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

After few weeks of riding I feel the bike is good. The ride is fairly pleasant but assembling it was not as easy as I thought. Even after assembling one would probably need to take it to a mechanic which can cost $20-50. The gears shift smoothly, till now only once the chain came off while shifting the front gears. The pedals doesn't seem to be that durable but till now I am satisfied with the overall performance of the bike.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

Bike was easy to put together and tune for the most part. The brakes have not been that easy to adjust. They are either rubbing the rim or are not tight enough with a huge change in a very minor adjustment. I have done a 17 and 21 mile ride over the last two Saturdays and the bike did very well other than the brake issues. Impressed especially at this price point.

My first bike in decades was purchased based on research for the best MTBs under $200. It is light and durable, perfect for weekend trail rides and jaunts with my kids. It's the perfect "dad bike". For safety, I recommend that novice or recreational riders have it assembled by pros at the bike shop.

Wasn't able to easily locate instructions on how to assemble the front braking system. Was able to figure it out fairly easily, but I could see how this could be confusing for others.

Overall, seems like a good bike.

Gave this bike as a gift to our son. He likes the lightweight frame and ease of shifting. He uses it as a mode of transportation to and from work when a car is not available, and also uses it for exercise.
All in all...a good bike for his needs.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

Good luck trying to get the derailleur dialed in, chain rubbing no matter what. Toxic paint. I wouldn't give this to a kid or anyone with kids. I do not trust Chinese standards. With that said, if you don't mind chain rubbing sounds for the price, I guess I would recommend it. I wouldn't trust this on the trails unless I had tools with me. If you're on a budget I would say go for it. You're gonna have to use your brain and look at the other assembly of tension gears to install brakes. Took me 2 hours to get it all together. The seat is uncomfortable as all get out.
