Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

After few weeks of riding I feel the bike is good. The ride is fairly pleasant but assembling it was not as easy as I thought. Even after assembling one would probably need to take it to a mechanic which can cost $20-50. The gears shift smoothly, till now only once the chain came off while shifting the front gears. The pedals doesn't seem to be that durable but till now I am satisfied with the overall performance of the bike.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

Bike was easy to put together and tune for the most part. The brakes have not been that easy to adjust. They are either rubbing the rim or are not tight enough with a huge change in a very minor adjustment. I have done a 17 and 21 mile ride over the last two Saturdays and the bike did very well other than the brake issues. Impressed especially at this price point.

My first bike in decades was purchased based on research for the best MTBs under $200. It is light and durable, perfect for weekend trail rides and jaunts with my kids. It's the perfect "dad bike". For safety, I recommend that novice or recreational riders have it assembled by pros at the bike shop.

Wasn't able to easily locate instructions on how to assemble the front braking system. Was able to figure it out fairly easily, but I could see how this could be confusing for others.

Overall, seems like a good bike.

Gave this bike as a gift to our son. He likes the lightweight frame and ease of shifting. He uses it as a mode of transportation to and from work when a car is not available, and also uses it for exercise.
All in all...a good bike for his needs.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

Good luck trying to get the derailleur dialed in, chain rubbing no matter what. Toxic paint. I wouldn't give this to a kid or anyone with kids. I do not trust Chinese standards. With that said, if you don't mind chain rubbing sounds for the price, I guess I would recommend it. I wouldn't trust this on the trails unless I had tools with me. If you're on a budget I would say go for it. You're gonna have to use your brain and look at the other assembly of tension gears to install brakes. Took me 2 hours to get it all together. The seat is uncomfortable as all get out.

This is the second bike we bought for our teenagers after three years. The first bike still runs great after years of abuse.

The build of bicycle is both solid and comfortable and there are no fancy addons. It offers the best value and quality for the price without brandname surcharge.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

I bought this product as a cheap bike to prove to myself that I want to get back into mountain biking after a 10 year break. I've had this bike about a month and have abused it off road. It has done its job in making me want get back into mountain biking.

Now about the bike. The fork/shock is aweful. It seized up after a week. It has been replaced by a new Rock Shox fork. I've never had any problems with the shifting, just the maintainence required when the cable gets stretched, but I don't like grip shift so I replaced it with cheap rapid fires. (grip shift is Shimano no SRAM). The pedals broke after two weeks, but after a couple slips off them they were going to be replaced anyway. Frame is sturdy.

If you are looking for a entry into light trail riding or getting around town, this bike is great due to the price. I think once the season is over and I buy a higher end ride I will give this one to my 11 year old nephew and hopefully get him into trail riding.

Comments about Nashbar AT1 Mountain Bike:

With less than 2000 miles on this, in mostly fair-weather conditions, many parts of this bike are falling apart and I have already replaced a number of things (tires, chain, cassette, pedals, crank, shifters). Other bikes I have ridden were much more durable, but they also cost more. I knew that this wasn't going to be a stellar bike at this pricepoint, but I was still a little let down. The pedals have literally disintegrated. The tires are really cheap, as are the shifters... and the shifting was never quite right in the first place. Its also heavy, but I don't care too much about that. If you are looking for a bike to ride a few miles on the weekend, this could be a great fit, but anything more.. you may want an upgrade.
