Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

Super easy to install in spite of myself! After reading previous comment about it being difficult to read, i left the protective plastic on the display to cut the glare. I've had zero problems reading the display. The scan feature is great.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

I ordered this product on a graduate student budget because it was the best bargain for a wireless bike computer with both cadence and speed. However, I have been disappointed since I opened it. The installation instructions are terrible, and the components are too fragile. Installing the battery very gently caused the casing to crack. And yes, I know 1) how to install a battery, and 2) how to be delicate with electronics as I work in an engineering lab with very sensitive biomedical recording equipment. The gasket around the battery in addition to the cover is sized inappropriately and made out of cheap plastic, and will break if you look at it wrong. Anyway, after installation, getting the sensor to pick up both the wheel sensor and the pedal sensor was a nightmare. Once I finally got a reading for both, a bump or strong gust of wind could throw everything out of alignment and I would loose one or the other reading (despite the sensor being ziptied on as tight as possible). Also, it would need new batteries every two months. Finally, the speedometer stopped working properly and I could not rely on the speed or odometer readings (meanwhile the cadence sensor worked fine). After far too much tinkering around to try to fix it, I'm finally sending it back.

Easily mounted on tandem. Wireless signals reach from rear chainstays to captains handlebar. Cadence and speed are a constant and easy to read.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

This review covers BN-TEMPC Tempo Double Wireless computer installation and initial reliability.

The first item received was faulty and was returned. The display was very dim and barely visible in daylight. At any button press, the display dimmed even more, becoming almost invisible. This was exacerbated by the fact that the batteries that came with the unit tested at 2.93 volts at no load. 2032 batteries are frequently classified "dead" at 2.7-2.8 volts. New batteries test at about 3.25-3.3 volts no load. I installed new batteries but the display was still very dim and dimmed even more with button press.

I compared the brightness side-by-side to another Nashbar computer, but not the double wireless model.

Nashbar shipped a new unit. Those batteries tested low at 2.92 volts and I immediately replaced them since they were already well discharged. However, with new batteries, the display brightness and contrast was fine.

Installation was not difficult since I have installed multiple similar systems. There were some hardware issues. The speed sensor magnet is mounted in flexible plastic. Two plastic pieces screw together with a shim between them for spoke mounting. The two pieces would not go together with sufficient friction to maintain position on the spoke. I replaced that magnet with a larger, all metal one from a different manufacturer and all was well. Another option is to use a small rare earth magnet for the speed sensor.

Cadence and speed work fine but I have no idea if the unit will stand up to daily use. We'll see.

Good, but hard to read if stem-mounted

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

Happy with this computer for the most part - it's easy enough to install and configure, the data reported is accurate, etc. I like having one reader for both speed and cadence (you mount the reader to the left rear chainstay and mount the magnet on the rear wheel) vs. having two separate readers. That's one less battery to replace, and battery replacement is a snap :)

My gripe is with readability of the display. I have it mounted on the stem of a drop bar bicycle. Unless my hands are on the bar tops, i.e. unless I'm looking at it from an angle, I cannot read the display - it gets dim when you look directly at it (not a battery problem - installing a fresh battery was the first thing I tried - you must indeed look at the display from an angle, not straight at it). Accordingly, this computer is NOT RECOMMENDED for drop bar use and a stem mount. Otherwise, you should be OK.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

I use this computer to track my commute and for long rides on the weekends. The best features for me are the wireless design and the many functions it has. Wireless function is a good feature because wires are usually damaged over time making the computer useless or by generating interference. Cadence is one of the functions included, which is rarely included in computers. The price is not low, but it is reasonable considering the functions. Casing does not look of a very high quality.

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

I really like this product. I bought it because of it's display. It has both cadence and speed at the same time, plus another function. Just what I've wanted, having come from a Cateye that you need to toggle back and forth between one or the other. Setup was easy and installation wasn't bad. My only complaint is seeing the display. There's not enough contrast between the digits and the background. It's fine in direct sunlight, but get the sun behind you so there is a shadow on the display and it's gets hard to read. I installed new batteries before using it, so low battery isn't the problem. Oh, and Nashbar, this would look like a much more expensive unit if you would change the two buttons from cheap looking red to something else, like black!

Comments about Nashbar Tempo Double Wireless Cycling Computer:

Having interest in a Cateye Double wireless, I saw this as a perfect cheaper alternative and as a way to outfit my wife's bike and my own. Atttachment wasn't bad - zip ties. The base rubber wasn't super easy to align while putting on the zip ties but not terrible. I was able to install it rather quickly. First try and all aspects were working. Instructions are fine and supply adequate detail to be able to set up everything. the order could be improved but otherwise all the information was there. the only issue I have is with viewing angle. I mounted the computer on my stem. I have a relaxed geometry road bike where the stem has a very slight upward angle. If I ride on the tops, the lcd is clear. When I am on the hoods, they start to disappear depending on the angle of the light. When I am right over it and in the drops, the screen cannot be read. Moving this to the tops of the bars would allow a better tilt and solved the issue but it is not my first choice for mounting. Really like the cadence and all the metrics. I would recommend this to someone looking for an inexpensive computer with wireless cadence.
