Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame
Whether you trashed your old frame, or just want to upgrade to something light, slick, and gorgeously glossy black, check the Nashbar Mountain Frame. Just like all the best aluminum frames in the industry, this one is made of custom butted 6061 aluminum tubing for light weight and super strength, top-tube cable routing to eliminate trail hang-ups, a replaceable hanger so you're not left crying by the trail side, and an aggressive all-mountain geometry so you're comfortable in high gear on rolling terrain or bombing down a mountainside at breakneck speed.
  • Made from 6061 series aluminum to keep the weight down, this frame is spec'd with a headtube for a 1 1/8" fork, a replaceable derailleur hanger, 2 sets of water bottle braze-ons
  • All cables are routed along the top tube, and we've made accommodations for newer hydraulic brake systems, so if you want to run a 1-piece cable from your levers to your calipers, no problem
  • As Henry Ford said 90 years ago, "You can get any color you want, as long as it's black"

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

I got an awesome set of bike tools and I wanted to learn everything I could. I got this frame to do just that. I searched around for a good frame to start with and used all my old parts to build from the ground up. It was built and given as a gift. Good bike and it gets ridden on trails a lot.

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

I used this frame to upgrade my old 90's GT frame and at the same time switched to Hydro disc brakes now that I have the tabs. I was shocked at how lightweight this frame is! I also really like the geometry. I like a frame that is a little small and the 18 inch is perfect. My complete bike with everything in it weighs in at 29 lbs. That's with heavy duty XC rims, slime tubes and heavy tires. I could easily get this bike to around 26-27 with some adjustments/upgrades. I really can't speak to the durability but so far it rides like butter.

Built a bike for my 12 year old using this frame.. Pulled most of the parts from my old bike. Everything fit perfectly. The paint will scratch very easily but other than that the frame is an excellent buy for under $100 including shipping and tax. Being aluminum, the scratches are not an issue and it is very light. I am betting under 3lbs.

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

This is a nice frame for an attractive price...i bought it to switch over parts from an older and broken Ti frame bike that was too expensive to have fixed....i just wanted an all round commuter / transport bike but ended up with something nicer. paint / finish is really clean, thread cutting was clean, and it was equipped for both disc and rim brakes....with the necessary parts included to adapt to each plus an extra derailleur hanger and forged fittings for rack mount on rear drops...if you are considering getting the steel frame - don't do it, it weighs in well over 6LB and is missing some features like rack bosses in the rear drops...i sent mine back and got this one...and it was above my level of expectation

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

I built up a townie for my daughter using the small (14") frame and she is absolutely delighted. She is 21yo, 5'2" and this frame fits her fine. A few comments. First of all, quality is very nice. It's lightweight, everything squared away, paint and welds are perfect. The bb threads were clean, didn't have to be chased. Love the way the dropouts are set up, with the replaceable hanger, and mounts for disc brakes, racks and fenders. And, I was able to get it in the exact color she wanted. (Black is the new black.) The geometry of this frame is interesting. Compared with a racing mountain bike, this frame has a slightly longer chainstay length, which makes it stable at speed. It has a slightly shorter effective top tube length, which doesn't affect handling but does give it a lot of versatility. This would be a great frame for your kid. With the low standover and short reach, you could put a really short person on this frame. As the child grows, you can adjust the fit by adjusting the seat and stem. You might eventually need to set the seat back, but I feel these changes will only improve the bike's handling. I'm 5'7" and with the right post and stem, I would ride this bike all day. As for what size rigid fork to use. Don't buy one that's too short, you will get toe clearance issues, and the head tube angle is steep enough as it is. It'll make the bike handle weird, because the long wheelbase makes it want to go straight, and the steep head tube angle will make it want to turn. And make sure you have enough offset, otherwise the steering might be too sluggish. I used a 440mm with 45mm offset. Bike is very stable on the straights but turns very sharply when required. Good if you might spend some time on the trails, but the steering is non-linear, so I wouldn't recommend this for highly technical, dangerous trails. If you're mostly riding on the street or dirt roads, or if you're carrying a load, I imagine the Nashbar suspension corrected fork would be ideal. Racing mountain bikes can be a pain to ride in the street, they don't hold a line very well and can become unstable at high speeds. The Nashbar frame gives up a bit in maneuverability to give it extremely good manners on the hard stuff. This bike is very quick and stable, an absolute joy to ride in the street. For a poor starving college kid who might ride this thing all over creation, but primarily needs it to get to school safely and quickly, this Nashbar frame can't be beat imo.

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

I bought this frame in 2012 and currently have 10,588 miles on this bike (2/3/15). I have done a hilly century road ride on it; countless urban rides; and lots of singletrack riding on the trails of South Carolina and western North Carolina. I am buying a second frame. When I bought the frame I weighed 240 lbs and am now down to 200 lbs and dropping. I have given this frame plenty of use and abuse. I would not hesitate to recommend this as an economical and performance oriented frame for someone on a budget or looking to replace a broken frame.

I bought this frame 2 years ago in 2012 and, as of this posting, have over 7500 miles on it. I'm a clyde (220 lb) and like to ride aggressive XC and urban rides. This frame has withstood the rooty/rocky gnar of Pisgah National Forest, as well as the rigors of numerous urban assault rides. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'! I also like the all black color... simple and to the point. I would not hesitate to purchase this frame again!

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

Received this frame as a gift in '10 and promptly buid a mountain bike from spare parts I had lying around. It's the 20" model, and significantly lighter than the bike it replaced - mine fully built is 25lbs (old one was 41!, tho it was a wallyworld soft tail). Directly compatible with every part I had. Despite what the previous reviewer said, my RockShox with a 1 1/8" steerer dropped right in. Quite stiff and does great when you're really powering up hills. We have some surprisingly rugged trails here in the Norse Country, and it has handled it all in stride. Love that it has mounts for both v and disc brakes for an eventual upgrade. I also like how subtle it is. Not a big flashy fan, so the plain black with black stem, grips and handlebars, black rims and black cable housings make me happy.

My only beef is in the geometry; it's the only thing keeping it from perfection. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the top tube seems surprisingly short. I'm 6'4", so these things matter quite a lot. I didn't really realize just how small it felt till I gave the bike to my wife and got a used 21" Gary Fisher. Even tho my Gary Fisher is only 1" larger, the significantly longer top tube gives me a much better riding position; I don't feel as scrunched in. Tho, the black beauty is a lot easier to toss around corners and thru trees. It's also a lot lighter than my Gary Fisher.

Comments about Nashbar 26" Mountain Bike Frame:

I built the 18" for my brother to replace an old 18" Raleigh that gave up the ghost. He rides mixed road and light trail for fun and fitness. It was easy to transfer his parts. The bike is not too heavy and it looks great. While I was building I couldn't help but to notice that the top tube seemed short. It measured 3cm shorter than his old Raleigh. That prompted me to measure the top tube on my 18" Gary Fisher Wahoo and low and behold my top tube is a whopping 5cm longer. This leads me to believe that the 18" Nashbar 26" mountain frame is unusually short. And guess what, my brother noticed it too on his first ride around the block. I have a 130mm stem ordered in an attempt to mitigate this issue, but I'm afraid that my brother's bike is just going to remain a little too short. If you are interested in this frame, you might consider buying the next size up. I wish I had.
