Comments about Nashbar Streetwise Kevlar Belt City Tire:

The Streetwise is light for a very durable tire. The 700X35 is only slightly bigger than a 700X32 Panaracer Pasela. The contact area is thick and the sidewalls are supple. My favorite 25 mile ride includes four miles of gravel that had cut and frayed the sidewalls of several Paselas whereas these show no sidewall damage. I weigh 220 pounds and find them to perform well at the recommended 80-90 psi on my cyclocross bike. A rear tire wore to cord after about 3,000 miles that included some touring. They are are essentially treadless but they can handle any surface that doesn't require knobs. Whenever glass or rock chips become imbedded they tend to be in the sipes, so the tire could be improved by being totally smooth like the old Avocet tires. But that's a minor point. This is a great tire for commuting, trails, touring, and tandems.

I just replaced a pair of these after almost 4,000 miles. No flats riding on NYC's potholed, glass strewn streets. The Kevlar belt is definitely worth it.

We run the 26's at 65psi on our cannondale tandem, they give a great ride and seem pretty durable, 500+ miles and only very minimal wear on the rear tire so far. Great bang for the buck.

Comments about Nashbar Streetwise Kevlar Belt City Tire:

I commute daily in a rough urban location, both in terms of road conditions and the tribal elements. Only the most severe of road hazards has ever sent these tires into early retirement. My commute distance is four miles each way so barring catastrophic incidents I easily get more than two years life from them. Also, thet are extremely easy to mount and dismount, which comes in handy in environments where I would prefer to have limited exposure to. For the price these are a no brainer.

My wife and I enjoy lite Inn-Inn touring on our Hybrids. I put these on both bikes to replace our nobby tires used for trail/road use and have added about 3mph. Have also found them to be smooth and easy riding. So far about 100 miles on them and very happy for how we ride.

Comments about Nashbar Streetwise Kevlar Belt City Tire:

Replaced the one year old OEM tires on my Trek Hybrid. These new tires are smoother, quieter, less vibration, and best of all less rolling resistance. My riding is entirely on paved surface. I bought them on sale and cannot beat the price. I plan to put a set on my wife's Giant Escape fitness bike. IT too has unnecessary extra tread lugs in the tires.

Comments about Nashbar Streetwise Kevlar Belt City Tire:

I wanted to post a follow up to my previous review {below} to report that I now have just over 100 miles on the tire and I've got my first FLAT ;(

It's important to note: I ran over GLASS. Crushed glass from a bottle that had clearly been previously ran over by a vehicle. The substrate was skateboard quality blacktop and the crushed glass was unavoidable due to pedestrian traffic that I had to weave through. And I even noted at the time I was riding over it that this would be a good test of the Kevlar lining in the tires. The tire was pretty soft about 5 miles and 2 hours later when I got home.

Keeping that in mind, I took very good care to inspect everything upon disassembly of the wheel. I carefully removed the tube and left the tire on the rim in it's original position. Then I dunked the tube in a bucket of water to find the slow bubbling leak and noted it's postion in relation to the valve with chalk. I then noted that same position in relation to the valve-hole on the rim and inspected the tire throughly. Sure enough, I found in one of the little V-notches in the treads, in the same area of the tire where the leak was found in the tube, fine bits of glass glowing blue like the glass I ran over on the paved trail. I carefully inspected the interior of the tire and found no imperfections, nothing to indicate that any of those tiny pieces of glass had penetrated. Still, the tire went flat and the hole in the tube was in the very same area of the tire where the glass was embedded in the tread on the tire. So it stands to reason that one of those pieces of glass somehow penetrated the tire. Careful inspection of the inside of the tire doesn't show any damage to the naked eye however so it must have been VERY small. Removing the bits of glass I found was difficult too, required a small needle to flick them all out of there...they were pretty stuck in the tread groove.

These are great tires...and please keep in mind: I RAN OVER GLASS....a decent amount of it too, but I can't help but think that the kevlar should have prevented the glass from entering the interior of the tire. It was flat, nicely paved blacktop so the tire inflated to 50psi was only touching a very thin ribbon of that surface. Apparently enough to puncture the kevlar material.
In the future I'm going to install tire-liners just to be prudent...the extra weight doesn't mean anything to me and if it makes the tire more durable for the rough-stuff, I'm still ahead of the game.

                      Parting thoughts:
                      - a great running tire well suited for riding on the street and light trails
                      - very fast, I'm pushing the old steel framed mountain bike at 17-19 mph in a sprint on the street.
                      - very good handling in the turns on dry consistent surfaces
                      - inexpensive...I can afford to buy a spare tire to just have lying around
                      - DON'T run over glass, you're pushing your luck ;)

Finally - I'm still using the tire, without tire-liners or slime or self-sealing tubes for now. I just want to see if I can expect another flat riding as carelessly as I was before, or perhaps this one incident was just a fluke. The front tire on the bike is just fine. So we'll see, only time will tell.
