Comments about Lake MX236 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

I was looking for a stiff versatile shoe that I could use both with work (delivering sandwiches) and something I could use as for commuting along with my favorite past time of gravel grinding. This shoes was perfect. I love how the boa with this shoe will actually come all the way around the foot which gives me more of a secure feeling. I have done one 95 mile gravel race on these shoes earlier this summer without any problems. I would highly recommend these shoes.

Thank you for asking my opinion. I searched a while to find a carbon fiber shoe that would work. These work clipped in and also using the SPD side of the pedals.

Comments about Lake MX236 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

A very good shoe that was an excellent buy. The show is very stiff and very comfortable. The bad thing about them is that the closing can be a little tricky at times and the toe is to much room. I did get the shoe in a 45 and I usually where a size 44.5 so that can be the problem. A very good shoe for such a low price.

Comments about Lake MX236 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

I got these to replace my Scott Team Boa shoes which were stolen..long story. I was in a bind since I had a race a week later. I only got a 30 minute ride on them before The 12 Hours of Santos. I did the six hour solo without a single hot spot or cramp. Typically my toes cramp after a logn ride. I didn't have a single issue. Any shoes with straps tend to cause hot spots. The Boa lacing system eliminates that. Although I have a narrow foot these fit great with even a nice wide toe box. These are an absolute steal for the money. Thank you Nashbar!!!

Comments about Lake MX236 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

The BOA tightening system broke on both shoes within about 2 months of use. the cable housing near the back of the tightening mechanism started to break, and it then started to bunch up, not allowing the shoes to open or close properly. I was (thankfully) able to get a replacement set, but am experiencing similar problems on the right shoe. I do admire the sleek design and lightweight design of the shoe, but this does not outweigh the apparent problems with the tightening system. The bottom of the shoes scratch very easily and parts of the tread wore off within about 1 month of riding. If the tightening system functioned properly, the shoes would be great!

Comments about Lake MX236 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

I used Lakes website for sizing and came up with 42.5. I own Specialized and Shimano shoes and always wear a 43. Rolled the dice and went for the 43 and they are too big. I'm going to send these back for a 42. They are all leather so I think (hope) that even if they are a little small they will break in and be perfect. Looked very well built and the BOA feels really nice. Excited about getting the right size and leaving a better review.

Great fitting shoes that I had to send back because I went with one size bigger then normal. Fit very true to size! Light, comfortable, and looks great! Can not speak of durablity yet as they only have a few rides in them.

I like them so much, they are my 4th pair of lake shoes. the boa is comfortable. The sizing on these are accurate, whereas the triathlon shoes were not accurate.

Comments about Lake MX236 Carbon Mountain Shoes:

First off let me start out with saying in the last couple years I have purchased 5 different pairs of shoes to replace my worn out Diadora X-Trail Carbons. Thus far the Diadora's have been the best fit for my feet. Unfortunately they discontinued the style I have (nice leather uppers) and went the way of the masses with the synthetic material. In the last couple years I've had foot issues and my arches have dropped so finding a pair of shoes that fit without pain or discomfort has been a challenge. Out of the gate I liked the fact the Lake is nearly all leather. They appear to be a very nice quality shoe, which was a nice surprise being they don't seem to be as main stream as several of the other manufacturers. First ride with the shoes was not bad but did I experience some hot spots and numbness in my feet. That turned out to the bottom cleat location. 2nd ride with that adjustment everything went well and they performed as expected. The carbon sole is very firm with no flex or pressure points. I ride with crank brothers pedals and have learned these pedals are not a perfect match for all shoes. The BOA system seems to work well and to my surprise applies nice equal pressure across the top of my feet. I was a bit concerned it maybe too tight in some areas and not tight enough in other. On the down side the location of the adjustment knob is not so ideal when trying to adjust on the fly. Now I see why they have moved it to the top of the shoe. The BOA system does require a bit of adjustment as they tend to loosen up after a few minutes of riding. Not the BOA system itself is lessening but simply the foot settling into the shoe. I normally wear a 9.5-10 and ordered a size 44 which converts to a 10. Size is pretty darn close and I would say they run just a bit on the large side. Maybe a ¼ size larger. Also would note that they do run a little wide, which offers a bit more room in the toe box. Which for me works out great due to I ride in the winter and it allows for some thicker socks. I'm assuming after a month or so the leather uppers will begin to mold to my feet thus improving fit. I've owner Bontragers, Specialized, Giro, Sidi, Diadora and now Lake. I will say next go around Lake will be at the top of my list on my next set of shoes when needed. After a few months of riding I will revise my review but at this point it's the first pair of shoes that I have purchased that have fit correctly. But like anything else it comes done to personal preference.
