Blackburn TRX-1 Ultimate Touring Rack
The slick, black Cadillac of racks is the Blackburn TRX-1 Ultimate Touring Rack. It's 6061 aluminum, so you know it's light and strong. It holds a ridiculous 40 lbs, has a narrow center of balance and can take panniers on high or low mounting points. It's designed especially for road (700c) bikes, so if you want to get your tour on in comfort and style, take a look at TRX-1.
  • 14mm gauge aircraft quality 6061 aluminum rod for uncompromised strength
  • Narrow profile for better balance
  • High and Low pannier mounting points for versatility
  • Designed for 700c bicycles--especially for touring

Good value but hard to install on standard road bikes

Comments about Blackburn TRX-1 Ultimate Touring Rack:

As others have mentioned this can be hard to install on a sports-tour/endurance style road bike with 700c wheels.

For my installation, to an old Trek 400 road bike, I drilled extra 1/4 inch holes into the supplied brake mounting bracket using a unibit drill bit. Once done the rack mounted in a very solid and secure fashion.

As far as use goes, my panniers mount securely, and I have had no problems at all with it on my 12 mile morning commute.

Comments about Blackburn TRX-1 Ultimate Touring Rack:

This rack is wonderfully built. It has lots of attachment points and is very light weight. I'd call it more of a commuter rack than a touring rack since the top deck is narrow. If it has fault, it is it's limited range of fit. I tried it on 3 different bikes and it only fit one. This could easily be fixed with Toba T Twist style Arms. That being said, if it fits, its a great choice!

Commuting and Touring. Rack allows me to keep panniers farther back and out of way of shoes. Solid weld and construction. Steel is recommended for touring but these rival any for the $$$!!! Great deal.

Bought this to add onto my recumbent for an upcoming tour. Decent value...lots of places to bungee your panniers to...and more versatile than some other racks I have bought in the past

Got this for my Diamondback hybrid 700c. It arrived this afternoon and it took me only minutes to install with 4 bolts and an allen wrench. The rack is adjustable for distance to seat tube with flexible mount options (either attach to 2 points on side of frame or to brake mount). It should fit most road and hybrid bikes. Rack looks good and strong.

          Difficult to mount...

Comments about Blackburn TRX-1 Ultimate Touring Rack:

Seems to be a well-made, if heavy, touring rack. The problem is in the mounting- the bridge mount stay won't work on my cyclocross bike- it would be in the brake cable path, and the seat stay mounts are FAR too long... by 1.5-2" at least. I'll have to cut the rods and sleeve them, or come up with some other mounting solution. I can see this fitting on long-chainstay touring bikes, but not much else. Disappointed.
