Comments about Nashbar Argyle Single-Speed Bike:

got this bike with the help of a loan. I got it as a backup bike so that if anything ever happened to my other bike, I would still have some wheels to use.

I have had to make some upgrades since buying it and now it is a near perfect fit and match for me.

first of the upgrades I needed was a stem riser extension for the handlebars. I'm tall and also long in the body and the low bars were hurting my wrists, hands and neck. plus they gave me less control and pedaling power and once I raised it, it was great!. but I also had to replace the handlebar faceplate because it kept coming loose and it felt flimsy. replaced that with a double aluminum handlebar clamp and it's now much more stable and does not feel like it will come off.

the second upgrade I needed was a 23t cog for the rear wheel. because unless you live where it is absolute flat everywhere, you're going to want something easier to give you better climbing power and acceleration.

also put some softer handlebar grips on to increase the comfort better.

now it is a bike that fits me very well and was the best value ever.

the frame seems to be a well made frame and since it is steel I hope that it will last for a very long time.

I also really like the blue tires.

Bought this as a cheap alternative to ride to commuter station. Have only had for a short time, but it was easy to put together, the gearing is appropriate for my commute which is relative flat. Steep hills are hard.

Coaster break is an issue for commuters

Comments about Nashbar Argyle Single-Speed Bike:

I use this as my daily commuter and in general I love this bike. It's a really great deal, especially when I bought it with a big discount and free shipping.
The frame soaks up a lot of the bumps on my way to work, the wheels seem pretty high quality and the other parts seem good as well.

What I did not understand when I purchased is that coaster brakes are not good for a commuter. Part of my commute is through a congested downtown and the coaster brake can't be trusted to stop you in a hurry.
The other problem with them is the difficulty of changing flats and replacing tubes. You need to have a wrench with you to take the rear wheel off for tire/tube replacements. Flats are easier as you can leave everything in place.
I added a front brake at the LBS for the safety concern but I'm stuck with the tire/tube replacement unless I replace the wheel or hub I guess.

If you are just buying this to cruise around the neighborhood-it's a 5 star bike but if you are using it to commute, it's problematic.

Well made, good selection of parts for the price, almost 90% assembled out of the box perfect for my short distance commutes on paved streets. No way to build a comparable bike for the price.

Comments about Nashbar Argyle Single-Speed Bike:

I bought this is a knockaround vehicle for local transportation in a flat suburb, and it will be OK for that. The frame build and finish are good for the price, and the wheels are solid quality, while the other components are serviceable -- all told, certainly a cut above a department store bike. I don't think I will keep it long though, or spend another cent, but if I were planning to keep it I would add a front caliper brake ASAP. Braking performance with the coaster hub is weak so you have to plan well ahead to stop if you are going over 15mph, a particular problem going downhill. Going uphill is not too mellow either; the gearing is fine for the flat but this is not a town bike where there is real terrain.

Product very easy to assemble. Great for cruising to store, mom's house, bank but also great for a quick 20 / 30 mile ride. Might want to add lube to bottom bracket, and hubs but other than that this baby is ready 30 minutes after UPS drops it off. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fixie at a super cost.

Comments about Nashbar Argyle Single-Speed Bike:

Had my doubts, but the bike met and in some ways even exceeded my expectations. It's become my daily go-to bike for my one-hour fitness cruise (retired, no more commuting) on rolling terrain, for which the the 42x16 (70") ratio is perfect. Chainring looks a bit cheesy, but it's steel and thus will last almost forever. Coaster brake squealed on braking for the first few miles, but works perfectly now. Replaced the handlebar with a Porteur-style bar for comfort because the knuckles-up mountain bike hand position is uncomfortable for me. Unexpected bonus: this bike is extremely stable when riding no-hands. And since I have a coaster brake, I can scrub speed if I need to while using the phone or taking off a jacket. Don't recommend this, just works for me. Still getting used to the blue tires (old dude here), but my wife likes them and says "don't you dare take them off!"

Comments about Nashbar Argyle Single-Speed Bike:

Definitely repack front and rear bearings. The bike is shipped with minimal bearing grease. Once done, no strange noises from the hubs and confidence that I will get good use out of the wheels.

Also replaced the seat. A long ride convinced me to do it. That was a personal preference but I got a good seat on sale from Nashbar, so my overall cost in the bike is still low.

I should be good to go for a long time.

                      Enjoy it.
