Continental Gatorskin Tire (Black) (700c) (23mm)
You can't go wrong with these Gatorskins. They are the perfect training tire. You can even race these too! I've put my Gatorskin tires through the worst conditions (gravel roads, you name it) and never had a single problem. You will get plenty of use out of these tires before they'll need replacing.

Continental Gatorskin Tire (Black) (700c) (25mm)
Great tire. The folding bead is easier to mount on a rim than the steel bead. I ride rough county roads. Other tires don't hold up, but the gatorskin tires hold up very well. It is rare for me to have a flat with these tires.

Continental Gatorskin Tire (Black) (700c) (25mm)
Was super easy to mount; had zero issues installing. Rode for a few days and got a puncture. It was a piece of glass. The tire did very well in stopping it, but did not fully prevent the glass from puncturing the tube. I noticed a couple small holes from what looks like gravel, but they did not penetrate. Glass is tough to beat and I do not blame the tire.

Continental Gatorskin Tire (Black) (700c) (23mm)
I had no trouble getting my Gatorskin onto my Mavic Aksium aluminum rims.
If I can upload a photo--this is what my tire looked like after 4,400 miles on a back wheel. I live in southern California, with pretty good weather year-round. Basically all of those miles were on paved surfaces, with the amount of debris that shoulders & side-of-the-road bike paths have. I thumb-check tire pressure every week or so, and was shocked that all of a sudden I was down below the outer coating--it must have happened pretty quickly. In the ca. 18 months I had this tire on I think I got only a couple of flats, and was very pleased with that.
The traction was fine, never skidded out on sand or anything like that.
