Wellgo WPD-M17C Clipless Pedals (Black) (Dual-Purpose)

Pedals are pedals, right? Well not always. . . I had put a set of older Nashbar-branded dual use pedals on my exercise bike a few years ago, and then last year moved them onto my Kona hybrid so I could put-put with my wife or grand-son without having to put on my bike shoes.

I was unable to ride much last year for a number of reasons---however this year I am, and upon examining these old Nashbar (sorry) pedals found them to be---wanting. In their defense, they are most likely around 8 years old or so. . . The bearings were quite rough on one side, so I figured I would replace them.

Picked this set out---not the most expensive, but I think they are one of the lightest of the dual-use here. Anyway, the bearings are quite nice and smooth. They have a nice sort of bar or plate that spans the mid-section of the SPD side, and which the instructions say to lightly grease, which I did with some Phil Wood waterproof grease. They engage, and release nicely, and the greased mid-plate no doubt helping with that. On the flip side, they have four little rubber cushions or grips. They come with a set of lower ones installed, with a set of higher ones enclosed. I installed these higher ones and they work quite well with "street shoes". . .

All in all these are a great set of pedals if you are in the market for dual-use pedals. Seem to be well made.
